Amazon is always at the forefront when it comes to e-commerce, which in unsuspecting times has innovated in the name of augmented reality. This is precisely where the latest innovation created by the Seattle giant founded by Jeff Bezos fits, which now also allows you to “virtually” try on your favorite shoes before buying them.

In 2017, Amazon launched a function that allowed, via AR, to place a piece of furniture in a room to see if it suited it and how much space it occupied: the feature, then imitated far and wide, also by Ikea, has evolved into the over time, just think of the agreement with L’Oréal, which allowed you to try on their cosmetics (make-up, make-up) on your face, to see if they fit them or not: later, the option also arrived to try on clothes.

It was the AI-based feature StyleSnap, which – in square a piece of clothing – suggested the same or something similar on e-commerce. For the occasion, the “Amazon Influencer Program” affiliation program was also launched, which allowed influencers to accrue commissions on the fashion items sold.

Now, the new step, communicated by Seattle on its blog through a post by the president of Amazon Fashion, Muge Erdirik Dogan, has resulted in the “Virtual Try-On for Shoes” function, launched in the USA and Canada on iPhone (from 7 onwards), or via mobile-desktop browser (by going to the pages amazon.com/b?node=23595320011 / amazon.ca/b?node=23739133011). For Android, the feature will arrive soon and, perhaps, on that occasion it will also have been extended to other brands and styles.

To try it on, just look for a shoe model from one of the partners in the initiative (eg Adidas, Balance, Asics, Reebok, Superga, Puma, Saucony, Lacoste) and, at the bottom under the image of the shoe, choose Virtual Try -On: at that point the 3D image of the shoe will be projected and adapted to the foot, which the user can move to see the shoe from different angles, also being able to vary the color without the need to exit the AR view. Indeed, it will be possible to take a picture of the result, to decide at a later time or to share with friends to ask for an opinion on the matter.
