After the launch of the Fire HD 10 and 10 Plus tablets in 2021, Amazon, the e-commerce giant, has announced updates to the cheaper version of its Fire tablets, the Fire 7 and Fire 7 Kids, whose previous editions even dated back to 2019.

Made with 35% post-consumer recycled plastic, the Fire 7 tablet (180.68 x 117.59 x 9.67mm for 282 grams, in black, pink, denim) comes with a 7-inch IPS display with 171 PPI, but not a top resolution, from 1024 × 600 pixels: the on-board cameras, one in front and one behind, are both 2 megapixel and stream at 720p, ideally for video calls. In this round, the Seattle brand has improved performance by 30%, thanks to the quadcore processor MediaTek MT8168V / B clocked at 2 GHz, with the RAM that has been doubled, reaching 2 GB, and the storage, expandable via microSD of 1 TB, available in denominations of 16 (without advertising at 94, with advertising at 79 euros) and 32 GB (without advertising at 104 euros, with ads at 89 euros).

The battery has also been improved, by 40% and now offers up to 10 hours of battery life after a full charge (in 4 hours), whether it’s surfing, listening to music, or watching videos: the the energy sector has also been improved on the interface side, with the arrival of the microUSB Type-C even if, unfortunately, the charging speed is only 5W. Equipped with an accelerometer, to modestly support sports apps and motion tracking, the Fire 7 2022 does not miss the Wi-Fi connection, the Bluetooth one and an audio jack.

Obviously, the integration of Alexa is not lacking, which allows not only to ask for news, make appointments and launch apps, but also to access the home automation compatible with it.

Moving on to the Kids Edition version (US, from 16 GB to $ 109.99, from 32 GB to $ 129.99), apart from the different dimensions (162x201x28 mm for 429 grams) for the ruggedized chassis, the specifications are the same as the adult model, but the manufacturer has provided the colors red, blue, purple and, in addition, has added a year of free subscription to Amazon Kids + and two years of “worry-free” warranty during which in case of breakage of the tablet, the same is changed to a new one notch.
