Android 15, what we know about the new privacy and wallet functions

After the exclusive Developer Preview, Google has officially made the first beta of Android 15.

A version, obviously, still partial which does not show 100% of all the new features of the next release of the operating system but which, in the meantime, introduces two interesting features by changing the ways in which the software manages the payment applications and the wallet presets and some interesting settings changes for privacy. Let’s find out more about it.

Android 15, the news on payments

From the testimonies of the testers who are trying Android 15, it seems that a new management mode will be available to use for the wallet app which, obviously, deals with digital paymentsfrom the car keysof the various ones loyalty cards and much more.

From the first rumors shared by 9to5Googleit seems that this innovation will be able to significantly simplify the life of the user who will be able to choose in total freedom the default application to manage all the above services.

When first opened, you can only choose Google Wallet or setting Nonebut it will be possible to add other applications (including third-party ones) to manage your digital wallet.

When you choose a default wallet app, it will become the one that manages all the relevant activities with the possibility of being changed, obviously, at any time by going to the device settings.

Security features

The other big news of Android 15 concerns the privacy management of the WiFiwhich can be accessed from the tab Details net.

In previous versions of the software, tapping the setting opened a pop-up that allowed you to choose whether share the MAC address or not of the device or one randomly generated.

By choosing the first option, for example, the owner of an open WiFi network could use that information to track various activities on the network.

With the update you can now view the device name or decide to hide it and guarantee full anonymity to your device. A very useful feature, especially if you use open or public networks.

Apart from this, Google has also introduced new settings for privacy protection privacy on cellular networks.

Here will be the option Notifications Of safety that allow Android to notify you every time you connect to one cellular network that is not encrypted or which may record IMEI and IMSI numbers.

Going forward there is the option Require encryption, which if activated allows you to receive alerts if you come across one of those networks mentioned above. A system that guarantees greater security, of course, but it must be underlined that in some areas the connection may not work properly, but in any case the device should remain safe and also guarantee access to emergency services.

At the moment it is not yet clear whether these privacy protection measures will arrive on all smartphones or tablets compatible with Android 15 or whether, instead, they will remain exclusive to Pixel di Googlethe only smartphones that currently have access to the beta of the new operating system.
