A little less than a year after the ATH-M50xBT2 model, the Japanese brand Audio Technica has announced a new model of hybrid headphones, the ATH-M20xBT, which promise – with some compromises – a sound quality typical of premium wired headphones, but in Bluetooth, at a rather low price.

The ATH-M20xBT headphones by Audio Technica have a glossy black finish, with the logo that stands out on the earpads: the latter, over ear, are padded with memory foam and covered with the same leatherette present on the headband in contact with the head. Convenient to use, since they do not exert excessive pressure, and taking into account the weight of only 216 grams, they do not focus on the touch controls: on the left pavilion there are the physical buttons “plus”, central, and “minus”, each of the which, via single or multiple pressure, manages multiple functions.

Also on the same pavilion, there is the microUSB Type-C door for recharging (fast, in 10 minutes you can recover 3 hours of use, thus being able to listen to music perhaps during a flight from Rome to London Heathrow) of the internal battery, which promises up to 60 hours by car and the 3.5 mm mini-jack to connect the 1.2 meter cable, if the battery is running low, or in the event that the source does not have Bluetooth connectivity.

The sound quality is influenced by the presence of 40 mm drivers, ideal for bass, from 5 to 32,000 Hz of frequency response, also thanks to the combination of “voice coils in copper-coated aluminum wire”.

A further contribution then comes from the implementation of Bluetooth 5.0 with support for SBC and AAC codecs, and for AVRCP, A2DP, HSP, HFP profiles. Still in favor of Bluetooth connectivity, the manufacturer has set up the multipoint connection with two devices at the same time, and provided a low-latency mode useful for when playing video games. To date, the Audio-Technica ATH-M20xB over-ear headphones can be purchased on the official website of the brand, where they are priced at 79.99 pounds (about 95 euros).
