Charge your phone in minutes with fast charging

If your phone runs out of battery quickly, let’s see how to make the most of the quick charge of modern smartphones

Fast charging

Modern smartphones have truly cutting-edge data sheets and displays that are very beautiful to look at, but the battery still lasts too little compared to the “ancestors”. To compensate for the low level of charge, smartphone manufacturers have decided to focus on fast recharge timestrying to speed them up to the point where they can fully charge a nearly dead phone in less than 15 minutes: The user will only need to charge more often, carrying a fast-charge compatible charger with them.

In this guide we will show you in detail What is fast phone charging and how does it work?a feature increasingly requested by users but which comes with various technologies that are very different from each other and with a high specificity to the type of USB charger used for the purpose.

1) What is fast charging

Fast Charge

Fast charging allows the phone to receive different current intensities than those traditionally used on chargers. A standard USB charger supplies up to 5 Volts at 2.4 Amps, but this charging current is not adequate for phones with more than 4000 mAh, which will effectively take hours to charge.

With a fast-charging smartphone and a fast-charging compatible USB charger we will be able to exploit different voltages and amperagesso as to obtain really high recharge times.

One of the most used technologies for fast charging is Qualcomm Quick Chargeused on devices that boast a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, but there are other proprietary technologies on the market released by various phone manufacturers (for example Xiaomi, OnePlus and Samsung use their technologies under various names).

Fast charging technologies are not always “interchangeable” (we won’t always be able to charge a fast charging Samsung with a Xiaomi charger and vice versa) but, in order to get the best results, we advise you to always use only original chargers and USB cables from the manufacturerotherwise we run the risk of not being able to take advantage of fast charging.

2) Does my phone have fast charging?

Smartphone Fast Charge

On the iPhone we always have fast charging, since that feature it was added starting with the iPhone 8 and is featured on later models (all of which are still widely supported by Apple).

On Android smartphones we can take a look at the phone’s features on Google or use an app like Ampereavailable for free on Google Play Store.

By launching this app during the charging process we will be able to immediately check the speed of the process in the upper part of the app. If our phone is certified to have fast charging but with the app we have noticed that charging is slow or normal, perhaps we have a problem with the charger or with the USB cable: it takes very little to have problems with this technology, better therefore equip ourselves with the right chargers and cables.

3) How to take advantage of fast charging

Quick charge activation

If fast charging doesn’t work or we have broken/lost your phone’s original charger and USB cable we can always buy original charging devices. Below we have collected the original chargers of the main manufacturers of smartphones with fast charging:

  • Xiaomi 120W Charging Combo
  • Samsung USB C Fast Charger 25W with Cable
  • OnePlus Warp Charge 65W Type-C Adapter
  • HUAWEI Supercharge Wall Charger
  • Original OPPO 18W Charger Charging Cable
  • 35W Apple Dual USB-C Power Adapter

If instead we want to charge the phone with a non original quick charger (we will never get the same charging speed but we will go faster than standard chargers) we can view one of the following products:

  • Anker 30W GaN USB C Charger
  • UGREEN Nexode 65W Caricatore USB C GaN
  • Anker 24W USB Charger with 2 Ports
  • UGREEN Nexode 140W Caricatore USB C GaN Tech con PD 3.1
  • Spigen USB C Charger Charging Station 120W [GaN Fast]

Conclusions

Taking advantage of fast charging can be a good way to compensate for the poor battery life included in modern smartphones: all we have to do is bring the fast-charging USB charger and the suitable USB cable with us to charge the phone as soon as possible, so as to always keep it close to 100% whatever the frequency of use.
