According to some rumors, Apple will bring its iPhone max to two with the 14th edition of its top range, giving up the mini variant, characterized by not exciting sales performance for the 12 and 13 models. The trend towards large screens, therefore, is rather clear, and it would seem to meet the decided favors of users who also, however, in some cases may want a more compact device, perhaps to carry in the pockets of their skinny skinny jeans or in the jacket pocket. This was the thought of the Chinese brand Cubot, which has just brought its recent Cubot Pocket small phone to the international market.

The Cubot Pocket, available (169.99 euros discounted to date by 12 euros from Amazon) in black or two-tone Green / Gold and Black / Red colors, waterproof according to IP68 and IP69K degrees, is slightly larger (119 × 58 mm) a card credit (86 × 54 mm): compared to the mini iPhone 12 and mini 13, it is narrower and shorter. The thickness, linked to the depth, is 12.5 mm, certainly greater than Apple’s rivals, but still contained: nevertheless, the device allows itself the “luxury” of the NFC module, with which contactless payments can be made.

Compromises are not lacking, starting with the lack of a fingerprint scanner, with security entrusted, in addition to PIN, pattern and password, to face scanning, implemented by the self-camera. The latter, 5 megapixel, is inserted in the thick upper frame, to the right of the ear capsule. Below, above a thick chin, is a display of just 4 inches, resolved in qHD + (i.e. equal to 540 x 1080 pixels), with 60 Hz refresh rate and IPS technology for excellent reading angles.

Behind, the elegant chassis that is somewhat reminiscent of the extra-luxuries of Vertu ex Nokia offers, above the V-shaped design, a single camera, 13 megapixel, with PDAF autofocus (focusing via phase detection): in the 128 grams of weight, certainly does not impact the small, but adequate, 3,000 mAh battery, chargeable via microUSB Type-C, capable of providing the necessary energy for both connectivity, including GPS (Beidou, Glonass), hybrid dual SIM with 4G, Bluetooth 5.0 and Wi-Fi n, which to the processing sector.

Specifically, in the Cubot Pocket the 12 nanometer Unisoc T310 octacore processor (2.0 GHz) of the former Spreadtrum is at work, combined with the IMG PowerVR GE8300 GPU: the RAM is still at 4 GB, and the storage at 64, even if it can be expanded by another 128 GB by giving up one of the two telephone cards. The software closes the technical picture, perhaps the only real sore point of a low cost such as the Cubot Pocket, given the adoption of Android stopped at the 11th edition.
