Disable Push Notifications on Android

Do notifications torment us when we visit a website on mobile or open an app? Let’s see how to remove them.

Notification push Android

When we open new web pages or apps we can run into an annoying problem: the push notifications on the top of your Android phonewhere advertising messages are shown and often cannot be removed without closing the app or changing the settings of the app itself.

This function was created to keep apps active in memory that were supposed to avoid closing due to energy saving, but it is also used to show advertising content from the sites we visit.

We can disable Android’s annoying push notificationsso as to get rid of it completely and not think about it again (at least until the next app that supports this function).

1) Turn off app notifications

The first trick we can apply to disable annoying push notifications involves completely disabling every type of notification for the annoying app. It is best to apply this trick only if the app does not show useful notifications but only annoying advertising messages.

To proceed we open the app Settingslet’s get into the menu Notifications and control centerlet’s press on App notifications, we identify the annoying app and turn off the switch next to it. Alternatively we can press on its name and customize the notifications to show and those to block.

If we don’t find the item for notifications on our Android phone, open the Settings app and use the search bar at the top, searching Notifications o Notification area (depending on the phone model in use).

2) Activate third-party cookie blocking

If push notifications appear when we browse websites, we can try to block them by disabling third-party cookies or cross-site cookies, which are often responsible for the appearance of advertising messages in the form of push notifications on Android.

Those who use Google Chrome simply have to open the navigation app on their phone, press on the three dots at the top right, then on Settings and finally up Privacy and security.

From this page we press on Third party cookies and we activate Block third-party cookiestaking care to also add some exceptions (since this change may compromise the functioning of some sites).

To learn more we can read our guide on how to control cookies, how to block or delete them.

3) Disable automatic app launch

Annoying push notifications appear when you start your phone? In this case we will have to check all the apps set in auto-start, so as to be able to deactivate those that we do not need or that take up memory unnecessarily (in addition to generating notifications).

In this case all we have to do is open the app Settings on your phone, search Automatic start o Automatic start in the backgroundin the top search bar and, in the new screen, disable the apps that we don’t want to auto-start with the device.

4) Change web browser

A good method that we can immediately apply to disable push notifications generated by websites involves completely changing your browsing browser, using one of the browsers designed for privacy, private and without data tracking.

The best browsers from this point of view are Firefox, Opera Browser e Brave Private Browserusable without problems on any Android phone and able to replace Chrome or any browser integrated into the system very well.

5) Run an antivirus scan

If we are inundated with messages and push notifications on the Android notification screen, the time has come to launch an antivirus scan, using both the scanner integrated into Android and one of the antivirus apps available in the Store.

To scan with the system integrated into Android, launch the Google Play Store app, press on the profile picture at the top right, then press on Manage apps and devicewe press up on the item of Play Protect and finally press on Analyze.

Alternatively, on Xiaomi phones, we can also open the app Safetypress on Security scan and wait for the scan (via the scanning engine offered by Avast). On all other Android devices we can always install and download a third-party antivirus, such as those seen in the ai guide best antivirus and antimalware apps for android.

Conclusions

If push notifications torment us on Android we can very well disable them blocking notifications to useless and harmful appsblocking some apps from starting automatically, changing browsers or launching an antivirus scan.

Unfortunately, not all push notifications need to be deactivated: for example, if we have a Xiaomi smartwatch it may be necessary to leave the notification active, especially if we use third-party management apps. However, they can block or limit notifications on Android only for certain apps.
