Electronic Artsa well-known company involved in the gaming sector, has announced a series of layoffs as regards their own developers.

Apparently, in fact, the company will focus onGenerative AI regarding the production of the next video games. According to the CEO of EA, Andrew Wilsontechnological advances are enabling the creation of valuable content ever faster.

Wilson, during his speech at the Morgan Stanley Technologyexplained how the integration of AI into game development has significantly reduced production times, with work once done in six months reduced to six weeks.

The CEO then outlined how EA, thanks to AI, will be able to develop games with aefficiency greater than 30%, with the possibility of concentrating a greater amount of money on the production of titles. All this, obviously, at the price of sacrificing “flesh and blood” developers.

Electronic Arts leaves another 670 developers at home: risks and opportunities of generative AI

Wilson said EA developers are integrating generative AI into their work. This new technology should augment developers’ capabilities rather than replace them. The words, apparently, are not confirmed by the facts.

Eletronic Arts, exactly one year ago, had already implemented a first substantial cut in software development. On that occasion, in fact, they were 780 professionals left at home from the company.

These are followed by 670 developersfired just in recent days by EA, which was also followed by the cancellation of some licensed projects (among which there appear to be some themed video games Star Wars).

All this confirms what the FMI who, just a few weeks ago, stated that AI poses a risk of approximately 40% of workers. Among these, software developers apparently figure among the risk categories.
