Earlier this month, several rumors revealed some of the specifications and qualities of a new Garmin product which, in the meantime, however, misled everyone by launching a smartwatch for extreme activities. About ten days after that, the well-known brand headquartered in Kansas has actually raised the curtain on a new fitness tracker, the Garmin Vivosmart 5.

Garmin’s new smartband comes in three sizes, with the small and medium (19.5 × 10.7 × 217 mm) weighing 24.5 grams, and the large (19.5 × 10.7 × 255 mm) weighing 26.5 grams. Compared to the previous model, now 4 years old as it was launched in 2018, the design reveals a certain continuity, even if some details have changed: around the display, there are no more metal edges, and the strap has round edges. Moving on to the major differences, the Vivosmart 5 allows the user, “ejected” the capsule of the tracker, to change the strap: in addition, the OLED touchscreen, from 0.41 × 0.73 inches, resolved at 88 × 154 pixels, is 66% larger than in the past, improving the reading especially of characters that appear less blurry. The button, subject to refinements, has been placed a little higher, making it easier to spot by touch.

On a smart level, connected with the smartphone via Bluetooth, the Vivosmart 5 allows you to take advantage of the Find functions (to find the watch from the smartphone and the smartphone from the watch), to receive weather forecasts, smart notifications (with automatic response, in tandem with Android devices, via preset messages). In terms of well-being, the wearable uses the Garmin Elevate heart rate monitor to track heart rate 24/7, and the Pulse Ox sensor to calculate the saturation of oxygen in the blood (SpO2): of course, there is no lack of sleep quality analysis. , stress, body charge level, attention to breathing and hydration.

From a safety perspective, the wearable is now able to send alerts in the event of anomalies detected in the heart rate and, by holding down the button for a long time, it allows you to send a message to a predefined contact complete with coordinates. In terms of fitness, Garmin’s Vivosmart 5, in tandem with the GPS of the smartphone, benefits from the pedometer, counts the calories burned and, via Move IQ, recognizes movements by associating them with some sports activities, monitored automatically (e.g. running, walking, swimming, elliptical, cycling), displaying them as events in the graph and history of the Garmin Connect Mobile suite.

The data of your workouts are always synchronized between the various Garmin devices, thanks to the Trueup function. Autonomous for 7 days, the Garmin Vivosmart 5 tracker can already be purchased on the official store, in black, fresh mint and white colors, and in the aforementioned sizes, at the price of 149.99 euros.
