Google Photos: Big G does spring cleaning in its cloud service and media organization

Recently, Google has paid a lot of attention to its Photo service, which can be used to organize photos and videos, and to back them up online in your cloud offered for free or by subscription by Big G: specifically, Mountain View has established that the owners of the Pixel 3 and 3XL will no longer have the unlimited backup in original quality, and that Messaggi will no longer feature the function (available from November 2021) to attach photos uploaded to the cloud via links (so that common messages do not turn into MMS).

To these functions, through an official post on your blog, others will be added, just announced by Google, evidently inspired by the routine of “spring cleaning”. We start with an improvement of the search, to view and find more easily only what interests you, which will now allow, displayed the albums as a list or grid, to apply filters using a bar at the top when performing the search.

You don’t always upload your photos online, which often remain in the local memory of your device. Aware of this, Foto will place an overview at the bottom of its interface listing a series of functions for the things that can be done with photos locally stored: for example, it will be possible to instantly start the FotoScan, perhaps to scan and convert old albums. physical files that we keep in the closets, use the Locked folder function, or the new function to import photos and videos from local storage, from another cloud (including Amazon Photos or iCloud), from a microSD perhaps contained in a camera.

Screenshots have also received various regards. In this case Google is aware that, often, once obtained a screenshot, one forgets its existence: to avoid it, a shortcut to the most recent screenshots will soon be placed at the top of the main grid, touched which will take you straight to the same. Soon, then, when opening the captured screenshots, Google will take care to suggest some editing operations (copy text, search with Lens, crop, etc) that it will be possible to do on them.

Finally, a retouch (coming this week on Android, with iOS that will receive it “soon” anyway) was also destined for the Google Photos sharing window, where it was also made order, with well-defined sections for shared albums, connections, and conversations.
