YouTube, the famous Google streaming platform, always ready to offer new functions to its users, in the past few hours has announced an interesting implementation, which improves the synergies between smart TV and smartphone, but has also become the protagonist of a shy and non-formalized roll-out on YouTube Music, which fills a very painful basic gap.

The first YouTube-themed novelty concerns the interaction between the television screen and the telephone screen. A research by Nielsen Data has shown that 88% of those who watch television interact with a tablet or smartphone at the same time: this has also proved true with regard to the vision, which is increasingly widespread (on average, per day, 700 million hours), YouTube content on TV. Specifically, Google has noticed that often people who watched a video of YT on a smart TV, then used the phone to like, comment, share the video, etc, after having searched and found it also on the mobile side.

To simplify everything, Mountain View has announced (via implementation on all platforms with the latest YouTube app in the coming weeks) a function that allows you to use your phone as a second screen of a TV where YouTube is running: to take advantage of this opportunity, it will not be necessary to resort to the DIAL or Google Cast transmission protocols, but it will simply be necessary to log into YouTube with the same account on the TV and on the phone. At that point, having started YouTube on the TV, in doing so on the smartphone just tap the “Connect” button for a given video to synchronize between the two devices. From that moment on, the user can use the phone to pause the video on the TV, read its description, comment on it, like it, make donations or purchases from the merchandising of the relevant creators.

On the occasion of the launch of this function, which can be used by Android and iOS smartphones, Google also reported that it is working on an e-commerce evolution of this novelty: for example, when a user will be ready to purchase, through a particular design of the video viewing page, it will be directed to the mobile side (“open the mobile app for a secondary screen experience”), where he will be able to see the objects presented in the YouTube video seen on the TV, touch them to view them better and, if you wish, buy them.

The other big news, being rolled out for a handful of web-side users, involves YouTube Music. In this case, some users of the well-known music streaming have noticed a function that was not there before when interacting with the songs of a list which, in essence, allows the multiple selection of the same, to proceed with collective actions. As it emerged, passing the cursor over the songs in a list, after the thumbs down and up symbols, a checkbox would tend to appear on the right, which would remain visible by selecting that song: using these boxes to select multiple songs, at the bottom of the a pop-up bar would appear on the screen, indicating how many songs would be selected, providing options such as add to playlist, add to queue, and an overflow menu.
