How to disable COVID-19 notifications on Android and iPhone

COVID-19 notifications With the arrival of the Immuni app all smartphone owners can monitor close contacts with other smartphones and exchange anonymous data, so that they can quickly go back to the chain of contagion in case of positivity to the SARS-CoV-2 virus, responsible for the COVID-19 disease that so much concern is causing it all over the world.
By installing the Immuni app we will take advantage of the contact tracing mechanism integrated by Google and Apple in all phones on the market (through targeted updates), which can bring up an alert window at any time.
If we are particularly anxious people, we never leave the house in these months and we don't want to receive this kind of notification at all (without uninstalling Immuni anyway), in this guide we will show you how to turn off COVID-19 notifications on Android and iPhone, so as not to generate alarms (perhaps useless in our case, if we carefully follow all government and health directives).

How to turn off alert alerts on COVID-19

Even if the user is left with the option to choose whether or not to receive this type of alert, we strongly advise you to leave COVID-19 notifications active: in this way we will be able to receive an alert every time we come into contact with a positive who in turn uses the contact tracing system on his phone.

How to turn off COVID-19 notifications on Android

If we no longer want to receive notifications about the possible COVID-19 infection, all we have to do is open the app immune already installed on our device, scroll to the home of the app and finally press on Turn off the service.
Immune Android

Alternatively we can disable the contact tracing notifications managed by Google itself (in which Immuni is only part of the system) by opening the app Settings, pressing on the menu Googleby selecting the menu COVID-19 exposure notifications and deactivating the switch at the top next to the item Exposure notifications.
Android notifications

In this way, any contact tracing app we use notifications will not be displayed, however leaving the tracking system operational (which will collect the data on the contacts we meet).
If we are infected, we can still perform our duty by opening the Immuni app and communicating our code, so that other users who have come into contact with us can take the necessary precautions.

Do we still receive notifications from Immuni even after following the advice above (perhaps notifications on how to reactivate the app or notifications)? In this case we can act clearly and decisively on the Immuni app notifications by taking us along the path Settings -> Apps -> Manage apps, pressing up immune and bringing us to the menu Show notifications, where you just need to turn off the switch at the top of the item View notifications.
Notification settings

In the same screen we can customize the Immuni notification, choosing whether to display the retractable notifications, whether to show the notification on the lock screen (very useful for privacy) and whether to allow the reproduction of sound or vibration during the notification; if our smartphone also has a notification LED, we can choose whether or not to use it for exposure notifications, at our complete discretion.
To know how to best manage all the notifications that any Android smartphone can generate, we recommend you read our guide Block Android notifications or limit them only for some apps.

How to turn off COVID-19 notifications on iPhone

If we use an iPhone as the main phone and we have already installed the Immuni app, we can disable the notifications on the COVID-19 by opening the aforementioned app and pressing the button Turn off the service.
Immune iPhone

Alternatively on the iPhone we can block exposure notifications by going to the app Settingsby pressing on the item immune (obtainable by scrolling in the settings screen) and deactivating the switch next to the item COVID-19 exposure notifications.
IOS exposure

From the same screen we can also disable other annoying notifications of the app immune (summaries, reactivation warnings and more) by pressing on the menu Notifications and turning off the switch next to the item Allow notifications.
Notification settings

If, on the other hand, we want to customize the notification, we can modify it in the window if we receive it in the lock screen, in the notification center or as an interactive banner, as well as being able to choose whether to play the sounds or display the notification badge (the number next to the app); always in the same window we can choose whether or not to show the previews on the lock screen (for privacy) or whether to group all the notifications, so as to occupy as little space as possible.

Conclusions

Many users reading this guide will surely have thought "if I have to quickly disable notifications I might as well uninstall Immuni, I do much sooner!", But this is a wrong attitude: the fact of not wanting to receive the Immuni exposure notifications does not mean failing to our civic duty, given that Immuni can also be used to warn other users who have met us if we test positive for the swab or for SARS-CoV-2 virus research tests.
Let us remember that the contact tracing system is integrated within the operating system of each smartphone and it works automatically, without being able to deactivate it: the Immuni app is only used to interpret the data received via Bleutooth LE and to notify any contacts with infected people. We are left with the choice whether or not to receive these notifications (at our risk), to quickly delete the data already collected and we can choose whether to use the app capable of interpreting the data (in this case the Immuni app).
