In addition to the much talked about new 24″ iMac with M3 chip, Mark Gurman Of Bloomberg has revealed in recent hours some more details on the next major update of the iPhone operating system, that is iOS 18. According to the journalist, Apple would have been caught quite a surprise from the sudden wave of tools based on generative artificial intelligence and, to try to catch up on its rivals, it would be working hard for the immediate future.
Apple tries to catch up: new AI already with iOS 18, due out in 2024
In his newsletter Power OnGurman explicitly talks about Craig Federighi, Eddy Cue and John Giannanadrea. They would be given the task of studying new AI features for the company’s devicesincluding obviously iPhone.
As for the smartphone, iOS 18 will bring with it an app Messages with smarter response suggestions, the AI-generated playlists in Apple Music and new ways to use AI in productivity apps like Pages e Keynote. The team led by Giannandrea would then be working on one new and improved version of Sirias anticipated.
For Apple, explains Gurman, making the versatility of artificial intelligence available in the functions that users use every day it is a primary objective. Especially since rival companies like OpenAI and especially Microsoft e Google they are already very advanced in this precise area.
In addition to new features of iOS 18, Apple is also thinking of new ways to improve the experience of developers who rely on Xcode to bring your applications to life. Through AI, functions such as fully advanced codealready offered by GitHub Copilot.
But offering AI functions means endangering the privacy of users? Apple cannot betray the trust of users and therefore, according to Gurman, will probably opt for different approaches, with some features performed directly on the device (maximizing privacy) and others that will rely on a cloud backend.
