iPhone 15 Pro can now record spatial video for the Vision Pro

How to enable space video recording

Before you can record space videos, the appropriate option must be enabled. After downloading and installing iOS 17.2on iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max just go to Settings → Camera → Formats and set the toggle relating to the function to “on”. Space Videos for Apple Vision Pro.

Once this is done, all that remains is to launch the Camera system app in Video mode, place the smartphone horizontally and tap the space video icon. At this point the smartphone uses both wide angle and ultra-wide angle (the field of view of the ultra wide angle is scaled to match that of the main camera) to record video 3D which can then be enjoyed later on Apple Vision Pro.

As regards the more technical aspect of the new feature, the Cupertino giant explains that space videos are recorded at 1080p (FHD) and 30 frames per second with wide dynamic range as standard. Furthermore, by leveraging advanced computational videography techniques and HEVC compression, spatial videos are relatively small in size (one minute of spatial video takes up approximately 130 MB).
