As known, for some time the focus of the former Facebook Inc has been on the construction of the metaverse, a combination of simulated worlds in which, alone or in company, it will be possible to live various experiences, from entertainment to work, buying, also selling and exhibiting digital items. This mission even meant that the colossus of Menlo Park changed its name, from Facebook to Meta.

The commitment in this segment, still at a loss for now, has certainly not disappeared, with Meta that, in fact, has announced an interesting update for its Quest viewers and a novelty for payments in the aforementioned dimension. In the first case, the release of the v.40 release for Meta (ex Oculus) Quest viewers was announced, which brings various improvements, starting from the test (it is not known how extensive) of the end-to-end encryption, E2EE , which will be made to protect individual messages and calls via Messenger in VR.

Another novelty brought with the v40 release concerns the fact that, while before you could only “lock” the entire viewer, now it will be possible to do so with some apps and games, so that you will need to type an unlock pattern to be able to start them: in Meta’s intentions this measure should be the forerunner of the parental supervision tools that will be implemented in the coming months.

In favor of people with hearing problems, in the accessibility tab, some options related to audio will arrive, such as Audio Mono, which will reproduce the same content on both channels, and the one to balance the right and left channels “with respect to the audio effect default spatial “. With the precondition that they are connected in Bluetooth, it will be possible in VR to see the visual representations of a greater number of physical keyboards since, in addition to the Logitech K830 and Apple Magic Keyboard (now also seen with the numeric keypad), the K375s and Logitech MX Keys. Last but not least, with the new update it will be possible to make payments in VR in a secure way, including the passage of 3DS authorization, using credit cards enabled for 3D secure.

In a post published on Medium, Meta’s Leading Commerce & Financial Technologies, Stephane Kasriel, talked about Facebook Pay, used in 160 countries and 55 currencies, to enable person-to-person, person-to-company, and company to company. This experience, operational since 2009, integrated into Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger and Facebook, will soon embrace the Meta brand, being renamed to Meta Pay, with an expansion also to areas such as NFTs and blockchain.
