Starting this year, Microsoft will abandon multiple operating systems, products and services – the phase End of Service now arrived for some versions of Windows as well as for various server platforms. Here is the complete list.

Microsoft is preparing to definitively say goodbye to many of its products. We have already seen that Windows 10 22H2 will be the last feature update made available to users of the successful operating system in view of the definitive abandonment of the various editions in mid-October 2025. Windows 10 however, it is not the only Microsoft product destined to reach the stage relatively quickly End of Service. Let’s see the complete list in detail.

Omitting Windows 7 e Windows 8/8.1which since January 2023 are no longer supported even under the ESU program (Extended Security Updates) for a fee, the first operating systems intended to reach the end of support they now become Windows 10 Home and Pro in version 21H2 (starting June 13, 2023) and Windows 11 Home and Pro in version 21H2 (starting October 10, 2023).

On these dates, therefore, users will be able to access the last one Patch Tuesday monthly or at security updates distributed monthly by the Redmond company. To continue receiving the patch monthly (“quality updates” in Microsoft jargon), on Windows 10 and Windows 11 systems you just need to update to version 22H2, i.e. the release newer than both platforms. At the time we highlighted what’s new in Windows 10 22H2 and Windows 11 22H2.

Quickly update to feature update more recent is not essential and indeed is not recommended for those who use Windows in the enterprise or for productive purposes. However, it becomes important to do this when the version of Windows 10 or Windows 11 in use approaches end of support date. For this reason, over the next few weeks Microsoft will step up the display of messages from Windows Update inviting you to update to the latest “feature update”.

Between October and November 2023, Microsoft is expected to make it available Windows 11 23H2the next feature update for the latest version of the operating system.

As mentioned in the opening, however, several Microsoft products will reach the end of support in 2023. The complete list is as follows:

  • Windows Embedded 8 Standard: July 11, 2023
  • Windows Embedded 8.1 Industry: July 11, 2023
  • Visual Studio 2022version 17.0 (LTSC): July 11, 2023
  • Hyper-V Server 2012 e 2012 R2: October 10, 2023
  • Microsoft Office 2019 per Mac: October 10, 2023
  • Windows Embedded Compact 2013: October 10, 2023
  • Windows Server 2012 e 2012 R2: October 10, 2023
  • Windows Storage Server 2012 e 2012 R2: October 10, 2023

At the same time, next fall Microsoft Office 2019 and its applications will move to the extended support phase while the end of support is set for October 14, 2025, as for the various editions of Windows 10.
