Mobile apps, how much they make for developers: the merciless numbers

We are used to considering the mobile app developers as professionals with considerable incomes, who live a comfortable life thanks to their programming skills. The reality, however, apparently is very different.

Apparently, in fact, they are pushing with ever greater insistence subscriptionsprecisely because revenue has decreased over the last period.

This scenario is revealed RevenueCat which, with a recent report, analyzed the performance of over 30.000 app. The document is the result of 7 years of study, with RevenueCat having collected information on a large scale, and while excluding some very successful apps, the analysis provides a cross-section of a sector that is almost unknown to ordinary users.

We are talking about 120 pages which offer unique details of the mobile app market, with a total turnover of 6.7 billion dollarsdivided by 18,000 developers e 290 million subscriberstaking both into account Google Play Store what about App Store.

As already mentioned, the proceeds are not divided equally. The 17% of the apps analyzed, for example, yields less than $1,000 a month.

The challenge of Artificial Intelligence and the hope in subscriptions: the difficult moment for app developers

Obviously there are those who have found a sort of gold “mine”. When an app exceeds the critical threshold of 1,000 dollars per month, in fact, in 59% of cases it goes over 2,500with an already more substantial compensation.

As for the subscriptionsHowever, the imbalance is much more clear. The RevenueCat report, specifically, highlighted how this formula does not pay in the long run. Even successful apps, in fact, see a flattening of earnings: in fact, the vast majority of applications, after 12 months they make little less than $50 a month to the developer.

Precisely for this reason, very often, app creators rely on rather aggressive policies to offer subscriptions to users. Also for this reason, industry insiders expect an overall increase in subscription costs.

The current average rate is already increased by 14% compared to the previous year, with a change from 7,05 a $8.01. All taking into account that, even in this sector, developers must face theArtificial intelligencea factor that could further inconvenience programmers.
