Not preceded by particular rumors, the new TV Box 4S Max was unveiled in China by Xiaomi, together with many other products, which brings the best performance ever to the fourth generation of this product.

It was back in 2018, when Xiaomi launched the fourth generation of its well-known smart multimedia set-top-box known as Mi TV Box 4. Since then, technological progress has advanced, requiring the Chinese brand to adapt the product, as indeed done – in internal market – with the new, but always very accessible, Xiaomi TV Box 4S Max.
Suitable for smartizing TVs that are not already smart by nature, the Xiaomi TV Box 4S Max retains the clean, elegant and minimal lines of the previous iterations, keeping low if you want to place it under the feet of a TV. Despite the size, the newcomer does not miss a USB Type-A 3.0 port with OTG, perhaps to connect a hard disk or a flash drive with contents, which however can also be sent from your phone, through wireless casting. The HDMI 2.1 port instead takes care (with streams up to 4K @ 60 fps) for the connection to the television set.
To guarantee 8K decoding, but also support for high dynamic range via HDR10, and support for DTS and Dolby Audio audio effects, is a respectable processing parterre, driven by a quadcore processor (1.5 GHz) with 64-bit architecture and 12-nanometer lithography construction, the Amlogic S905X3, paired with an ARM Mali-G31 MP2 graphics card. Also in the sector in question, there is the presence of the Amlogic Video Engine 10 (which takes care of decoding in 8K) and a robust (for the category) quantity of memories, with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage ( eMMC).
Support for the AV1 codec is missing, but no wireless connectivity, as dual band Wi-Fi ac and Bluetooth: the operating system is MIUI for TV, based on Android 11, with device control possible both via the Mijia app , that via the Bluetooth remote control (convenient for not having to aim the box with precision as with the infrared ones), or via voice commands (data to the remote control) intended for the XiaoAI assistant. Currently, it is possible to buy the new Xiaomi TV Box 4S Max, evolution of the 2020 model, at a price of about 70 euros (or 499 yuan).
It is unclear if the Xiaomi TV Box 4S Max will arrive, and when, in the West. In that case, the device could adopt Android TV, support for Google Assistant and implement the AV1 codec.
