Poco C40: entry level official in Vietnam with super battery and brand new processor

The creative forges of Xiaomi have surprised once again, fielding a decidedly original smartphone, not so much in the design, very accurate albeit low-end, as in the “heart” entrusted to a chipmaker unknown worldwide.

Recently, Poco Global, having obtained all the appropriate certifications, announced the launch of the Poco C40 smartphone for June 16, probably during an event set for India. The Xiaomi spin-off device, however, has already become official in Vietnam, where it is priced (on thegioididong.com) at 3,490,000 Vietnamese dong (about 141 euros).

Poco C40 (169.59 x 76.56 x 9.18 mm, for 204 grams) has a chassis with a back in grainy eco-leather (to prevent slipping and fingerprints), colored in black, yellow and blue, and a front with a teardrop notch. Frontally, there are visible but not excessive bezels on the sides, unlike the chin, much thicker: the whole runs alongside a 6.71-inch IPS LCD display, resolved in HD + (1650 x 720 pixels), with a very low refresh rate, from 60 Hz, and at most 400 nits of peak brightness.

In the waterdrop at the top is located the self-camera, here from 5 megapixels: at the rear, a plate almost as wide as the whole device, in black, including the word Poco and the fingerprint scanner, includes a dual camera, with a main sensor 13 megapixel and a secondary 2 megapixel, for the depth.

Some attention deserves the processing sector of the Poco C40: here, the manufacturer has made his debut an octacore processor (thanks to the 2.0 GHz Cortex A55 cores) at 11 nanometers of a little-known chipmaker, JLQ, which for the occasion has put in field the JR510 SoC equipped with the Mali-G57 MC1 GPU, whose performance is judged to be comparable to that of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 or a Mediatek Helio G35. The RAM and storage (expandable via microSD by 1 TB extra) include the 4 + 64 GB combo (58 available for the user).

There does not seem to be any problems in terms of autonomy, given the presence of a 6,000 mAh battery, capable of supporting fast charging at 18W via Type-C: in the package, however, there is a charger that only reaches 10W. In terms of connectivity, the Poco C40 includes Dual SIM, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi ac dual band (i.e. 2.4GHz + 5GHz) with Direct / Hotspot, GPS (Glonass, Beidou), Bluetooth 5.0, 3.5mm mini-jack with FM radio. The operating system, behind the MIUI interface, is Android 11.
