The world of cryptocurrencies is in turmoil and, for once, Elon Musk’s support for the Dogecoin currency has nothing to do with it: Solana Mobile has announced its first smartphone dedicated to cryptocurrencies and NFC, the Solana Saga, thanks to the collaboration of OSOM (formerly Essential).

After the bankruptcy of Essential, the phone brand of Android co-founder Andy Rubin, many engineers of that brand founded the OSOM company, with the aim of bringing an Essential 2 to the market (here the first), which it could now materialize thanks to Solana Mobile (subsidiary of Solana Labs) which, specifically, has just presented the crypto-phone Solana Saga.
Destined to challenge the unfortunate HTC Exodus 1 and 1s, the Solana Saga (166.2 mm x 75.9 mm x 7.9 mm for 195 grams), aka OSOM OV1 (precisely an Essential 2), will use a 6.67-inch OLED display, resolute in FullHD +, with 120 Hz refresh rate: the selfiecamera, located in a hole in the top center, is 16 megapixel, while the back, in a bumper with a singular inclined pyramidal shape, houses a dual camera, with a main sensor of 50 megapixels (Sony IMX766, f / 1.8) and an ultra-wide angle (120 ° viewing angle) of 12 megapixels.
Leading the Solana Saga will be Qualcomm’s top-of-the-range octacore processor, or the recent Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, flanked by 12 GB as regards RAM, while the storage will be sized at 512 GB. Equipped with 5G, GPS, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.0, a 4,100 mAh battery will be placed inside it, benefiting from support for wireless charging.
In terms of security, in addition to the presence of a rear fingerprint scanner, the Solana Saga will be compatible with the Orca exchange, with the NFT marketplace Magic Eden, with the “Solana Mobile Stack” app store, and with the Phantom wallet, which can be used to exchange, receive, send NFT via the Solana blockchain (fast and with low commissions) (also being able to accrue Sol rewards). At the moment, it is possible to book the Solana Saga crypto-phone by paying a deposit, refundable in case of change of mind, equal to 100 dollars.
The shipments, having paid the total, equal to 1,000 dollars, should take place within the first quarter of 2023, in markets such as Canada, the United Kingdom, the USA and “Europe”.
