During today’s highly anticipated Sony event, the Japanese giant, borrowing the experience from its photographic and audio divisions, announced the new Xperia family cameraphone, represented by the top Xperia 1 IV range.

The Sony Xperia 1 IV has a frame with Gorilla Glass Victus glass in front and behind and a metallic side frame, in the name of a square design (165 x 71 x 8.2 mm, for 185 grams) in the colors Ice White, Black and Purple, which benefits from waterproofing according to IP68 and IP65 standards. Starting from the front, a 6.5-inch AMOLED panel resolved in 4K, oblong (21: 9), 50% brighter than in the past (yes to implement HDR in real time) is adopted, with dedicated Bravia X1 co-processor that also brings its contribution in the reproduction of Dolby Atmos content, between series and movies, offered by the BRAVIA CORE hub.

The self-camera in the narrow high bezel is based on a 12 megapixel Exmor RS sensor (1 / 2.9 ″, 20 mm, f / 2.0). On the back, the vertical pillar features three Exmor RS sensors, coated with Zeiss’ anti-reflection T * treatment (which also supplied the lenses) and assisted by a 3D iToF sensor (0.3 mpx) for depth (useful to help, at equal to AI, in focus), which form the triple camera with OIS (via Optical SteadyShot with FlawlessEye). Specifically, it is constituted by a 12 megapixel main sensor (f / 1.7, dual pixel PDAF, 1.8 micrometers of pixels), with a 24 mm lens, an ultra-wide angle (124 °) from 12 megapixels, f / 2.2, with a 16 mm, and a periscopic one, again with 12 megapixels (f / 2.3-f / 2.8), with 3.5x-5.2x continuous zoom (via two 85 and 125 mm fixed lenses). Still on the subject of tangibility, the physical button on the right for the camera also contributes to making the Xperia 1 IV a cameraphone.

In terms of functionality, the collaboration with the Alpha division has brought to users the white balance via AI, the burst of Burst mode from 20 frames per second, and the real-time tracking of the eyes, as well as, always on all the rear lenses, the AE-AF HDR function. Great attention has been given to shooting, with slow motion 4K @ 120 fps, eye tracking (EYE AF) during shooting: those who love to try their hand at professional shooting will appreciate the Videography Pro function (which also allows you to change parameters such as white balance, exposure and focus) while those who cultivate cinematographic ambitions will also approach the Cinematography Pro function curated by CineAlta (to perform calibrations and changes of the Pro level color parameters) and the multiframe recording which, by providing a wider dynamic range, allows post productions that allow you to express yourself at your best.

Lovers of streaming will benefit from some accessories (Bluetooth Shooting Grip and Vlog Monitor), as well as from being able to use object tracking or Eye AF during shooting: by connecting the device to an Alpha camera, it can be used as an external monitor of the itself. Moving on to audio, in addition to the presence of the 3.5 mini-jack and two full-stage stereo speakers to enhance the bass, the collaboration with the Music Entertainment division has brought several benefits, including the recovery of details lost with compression ( DSEE Ultimate), immersive 360 Reality audio, and Music Pro (a function that, with the processing contribution of the cloud, by separating the tracks, allows either to clean up the audio recorded by the microphones from background noises, or to record separately accompaniment and vocals for a professional remix).

Taking care of security with a lateral fingerprint scanner, the processing section includes the Qualcomm Snapdragon Gen 1 processor supported by 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage expandable via microSD: the dissipation of high temperatures, during charging and gaming, it is managed by the “Suppression Power Control” thermal control system. As mentioned, gaming is another of the multimedia sectors focused on by Sony with the Xperia 1 IV which, in this regard, includes the recording of the last 30s of a game, the Qualcomm Snapdragon Elite Gaming platform, the Game Enhancher tool (from a streaming perspective , also useful, connected the phone to the PC, to record the video and audio of the game – including the player’s voice – via the Type-C). Then, various accessories for gaming Gaming Gear will also arrive, developed with SCARTZ eSport athletes, with an eye to improving streaming and heat dissipation: first, however, in June in conjunction with the phone, it will arrive on the market, in antibacterial material, the Style Cover with Stand, useful for passively enjoying the contents, as always priced at 34.99 euros.

Equipped with a 5,000 mAh battery with wireless charging, and wired fast charge (Type-C) at 30W (50% in 30 minutes), the Sony Xperia 1 IV, which connectivity side boasts Bluetooth LE, GPS, Wi -Fi 6E, NFC and 5G, will be priced from mid-June at 1,399 euros (to which the costs of cable and charger, to be bought separately, will be added), arriving on the market with Android 12.
