The PocketBook brand is back and, in view of the summer, has announced a 7-inch waterproof ebook reader with improved E-Ink Carta 1200, also equipped with integrated speaker and speech synthesizer.

After closing the year with an ebook reader suitable for Christmas gifts, the Ukrainian brand (headquartered in Switzerland) known as PocketBook has announced a new e-reader, the PocketBook Era, priced in the USA (on GoodReader) at 199.99 dollars for the Stardust Silver version with 16GB of storage, and $ 249.99 for the 64GB Sunset Copper variant.
Compared to the other models of the brand, with rounded lower corners and the control and page-turning buttons (when not using the touch) placed in the lower edge, the PocketBook Era – dimensioned at 134.3 x 155 x 7.8 mm for 228 grams – puts the buttons on the right, on one edge, with slightly cut corners, comfortable for the grip. The protective glass of the display, with a scratch-resistant protection, is flush with the surrounding bezel.
Under it lies a resolute 7-inch panel at 1264 × 1680 pixels (300 PPI) entrusted to the improved technology (+ 15% contrast, + 20% touch response times) E Ink Carta 1200. Thanks to the SMARTlight function. it will be possible to improve reading in the evening by adjusting the temperature and brightness of the color.
Compared to most of its rivals, even famous ones, the PocketBook Era not only supports listening to audiobooks and podcasts from headphones and speakers via Bluetooth 5.1, but also integrates its own speakers: thanks to the latter, among other things, the the user will be able to have a book read (due to this natural voice synthesis) in one of the 26 languages covered. Its body, waterproof according to the IPX8 degree (up to 2 meters of immersion in water for 60 minutes), so that it can also be used in the pool, in the tub or on the beach, houses a 1 GHz processor supported by 1 GB of RAM. . The autonomy, delivered by the 1,700 mAh battery, is about 4 weeks of reading.
Equipped with a Linux-based firmware, the PocketBook Era supports 29 file formats (19 for ebooks, 6 for image files, 4 for audio), which can be loaded via the microUSB Type-C port, or purchased from the Pocketbook Bookstore.
