TikTok could disappear: the USA approves the law to ban the social network

There had been rumors for days about the vote that would cast doubt on the future of TikTok. The famous social application currently finds itself in an extremely uncomfortable situation even if in the past there had already been talk of a real ultimatum.

To give it in the 2020in the summer, it was indeed Donald Trump, then president, who forced ByteDance, the Chinese company that owns TikTok in the USA, to sell the group in 45 days. It was a court that blocked everything with the affair ending in a stalemate. In fact, Trump lost the elections and the issue ended up forgotten.

Today, after four years, we’re talking about TikTok again: the House voted passing a law that could change everything.

TikTok could be banned in the USA: the data of 170 million users is at risk

with ben 352 votes in favor and 62 against, the majority was overwhelming: ByteDance, if the approved law also passes the Senate, will be forced to sell. This time there will be no escape for the company, that anyway will have to sell its shares within six months to a property other than the Chinese one.

Otherwise, the TikTok application can no longer be downloaded from the App Store and Google Play Store. Since the Chinese group forced to sell is directly controlled by Beijing, the United States raised alarm bells over the data of as many as 170 million members.

The Chinese group is in fact obliged to make available all the data collected in US territory. It is precisely in this way that the cold war reopens, which for years has seen the two factions, namely Washington and Beijing, as protagonists. Many will remember what happened to Huawei, which with the ban imposed by Donald Trump lost all market share outside of China with regards to its smartphones.
