Twitter, it's official: Tesla's Elon Musk joins the Board of Directors, edit tweet button is coming

The week of Twitter started with a bang, with the confirmation of the direct interested according to which Elon Musk, the entrepreneur behind Space X, Neuralink and Tesla Motors, bought about 73.5 million shares of the microblog in question, becoming the largest shareholder. single (9.2% holding) strong of an investment of 2.9 billion dollars. The story, which seemed to have stopped there, proved the analysts right, reserving further surprises.

First of all, on Tuesday Elon Musk, almost mimicking the official April Fool of the platform, who on April 1st joked about the Edit function of the tweets (long awaited by some users, for whom it is important to be able to correct the errors that occurred during the publication , while others complain that the “definitiveness” of the platform would be lost, given that the controversial opinions could be changed a posteriori, effectively altering the debate), had launched a new poll (which ended with over 70% in favor), asking to users if they actually wanted an edit button.

Shortly thereafter, a tweet arrived from none other than the new CEO himself, Parag Agrawal who, in response to the survey, curiously asked users to vote carefully, explaining that the outcome of the survey could have important consequences.

Until then, however, there was talk of a passive participation of Musk as a shareholder in Twitter, but things have changed, as Agrawal already knew (having admitted interlocutions with the person concerned in the past few weeks), in the course of a few hours. Specifically, the top Twitter executive confirmed Musk’s entry into the Twitter board, with the role, willing until the meeting with investors in 2024, of class 2 director, a qualification which – however – prevents him from alone or in a group, to raise its stake to more than 14.9% of the platform.

To crown this climb (perhaps facilitated by the fact that in recent weeks the value of Twitter’s shares had fallen just after the accusations of lack of freedom complained by Musk on Twitter), the CEO of the blue canary Agrawal said he was happy to welcome Musk ( who is dying to work to introduce “significant improvements”), who has always been a Twitter enthusiast (and critic), on the board of directors where he will bring different points of view. There was also a final comment from former CEO (and co-founder) Jack Dorsey that Agrawal and Dorsey will form a great team, with the latter “caring deeply about our world and Twitter’s role in it”.

Moving on to something more concrete, from the official TwitterComms account came the confirmation that the button to edit tweets, in development since last year (together with other methods to ensure users more control over what they publish) will actually make its debut, but “in the coming months” in favor of the users of the Blue subscription, in the “Labs” section of their settings, so that they “learn what works, what doesn’t and what is possible“.

To date, the only way to get something with a similar result is, again in favor of Blue users, the function that, just after sharing the content, allows you to cancel the sending (a bit like on Gmail) which, however, on balance, it is more a sort of facilitated and accelerated cancellation process than a real revision system.
