Twitter, Musk: between legal reminders and advice in relation to the social algorithm

The interest of the billionaire Elon Musk in the purchase of Twitter continues to offer food for thought and chat, for now pending, with the histrionic entrepreneur who, in the past few hours, in addition to having complained about legal problems with the blue canary’s social network , continued to suggest improvements to the same.

As known, Elon Musk suspended the Twitter purchase process pending a clearer picture of the actual number of fake accounts and bots present among the users of the platform: to a question from a user on how he would have “processed the filtering process of account bot “, the current CEO of Tesla replied that he would use, as a sample size for testing, 100, as that is what the platform itself uses when it wants to quantify the percentage of” fake / spam / duplicate “accounts.

Based on this information, the legal team of the platform has officially recalled Musk for violating a non-disclosure agreement, NDA, with the well-known microblog.

That didn’t stop Musk from trying his hand at further advice on how to improve Twitter, though. First of all, the entrepreneur, who has always been very active on social media, shared a small tutorial that explains how to disable the algorithm that suggests the most popular tweets (button, home, star icon at the top right, “last tweet” option ) that would manipulate the user in ways they couldn’t even imagine. Needless to say, this stance did not please former CEO and co-founder Jack Dorsey, who explained that the Twitter algorithm, which can be disabled in favor of chronological display, was designed to save users time when they are away. for a while from the platform.

Corrected the roll on the subject a bit, explaining that the algorithm, in an attempt to guess what the user likes, could inadvertently and without malice amplify or manipulate his points of view, Musk explained that, in his opinion, the algorithms of social media should be open source, so as to give everyone the opportunity to check its functioning, with the related advantage of being able to discover any bugs that lurk in the code.
