Launched in early June with the new VAIO SX12 laptop proposed in the Japanese market, Sony’s former notebook division, now independent VAIO, announced in early July an affordable laptop, the VAIO FE 14.1, for the market. USA, where it is distributed by Sam’s Club and Walmart e-commerce.

The VAIO FE 14.1 has a chassis (325 x 221 x 20 mm for 1.58 kg) as always elegant, in the colors rose gold, silver, black and blue, while the interior fittings, illustrated below, are as many as 3. All configurations are shared by most of the specifications. Basically, the laptop has a 14.1-inch, LCD-type IPS display, with a FullHD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, and an aspect ratio of 16: 9: the hinge at the bottom is somewhat reminiscent of the ErgoLift of the Asus ZenBook. since, when the screen is pushed to the rear, a base raises the keyboard. for better typing comfort and to let a flow of air pass underneath the chassis, thus keeping it cool.

In support of video calls, the VAIO FE 14.1 offers a 2 megapixel webcam with a physical shutter for privacy, also managed by the availability of a fingerprint scanner: on the audio level, instead, two speakers come into play and support for THX Spatial immersive audio, which can be used from both speakers and headphones (with prior support).

The camera body of the VAIO FE 14.1 is surmounted by a Precision Touchpad and accompanied, on the sides, by several ports, including a 3.5 mm combo jack, an HDMI, three USB Type-A (two of which 3.1 and one 2.0), a USB Type-C, an SD reader up to 512 GB with which to expand the storage, and an Ethernet. In addition to Wi-Fi, there is also Bluetooth 5.1 wireless connectivity; the battery, of an unspecified amount, is credited with being able to offer up to 10 hours of autonomy.

The new VAIO FE 14.1 notebook, managed on the software side by the Windows 11 Home operating system, promises high performance, but also “lightning-fast responsiveness and multitasking capabilities, with better energy efficiency” thanks to the use of Intel 12th generation processors, Alder Lake, via the U series, paired with the Intel Iris Xe integrated graphics card. To differentiate the three configurations provided are the amount of memory mounted, for RAM and storage, and the processor used.

It seems from 699 dollars (670 euros approximately) for the version with an i5-1235U (10 cores, 12 threads, 4.40 GHz maximum), 8 GB of RAM and 512 GB of SSD, to get to 799 dollars (766 euros approximately) required for the version with still the i5-1235U but supported by 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of solid state storage. The highlight is obtained, for $ 949 (approximately 910 euros), which entitles you, again with 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of SSD, to the i7-1255U processor (10 cores, 12 threads, 4.70 GHz maximum).
