The long-awaited Vivo event was held in China, with the brand of the BBK Electronics group taking the opportunity to raise the curtain on its declination of the concept of cameraphone expressed in the “different twins” Vivo X80 and Vivo X80 Pro.
Vivo X80 and Vivo X80 Pro: official premium cameraphones with V1 + co-processor

During a highly anticipated event, the Chinese brand Vivo has formalized the premium smartphones Vivo X80 and X80 Pro as heirs of the X70 Series (also including the X70 Pro +) launched in September 2021.

The new Vivo X80s share several peculiarities, starting with the design: from the front, they reveal frames that are practically invisible on the sides and only slightly hinted at at the bottom and at the top: still at the top, the solution for the self-camera resides in a central hole in the screen. On the back, there is a slightly raised area, almost as wide as the width of the device, with a side window including photographic sensors. Of the two devices, however, only the Pro has IP68 certification. In terms of colors and materials, in the two Vivo X80s, by opting for the orange color, you get a back in eco-leather, while the black and turquoise colors use respectively the AG fluorite glass and the ceramic.

Both Vivo X80s are equipped with a 6.78-inch AMOLED E5 display. In the basic model, it is a FullHD + panel. with 120 Hz refresh rate, 100% coverage on the DCI-P3 color space, and 1,500 nits of brightness, with a standard underlying optical sensor for fingerprints while, in the X80 Pro, the panel still supplied by Samsung is a QHD + , LTPO 2 type, therefore with variable refresh rate (from 1) up to 120 Hz, with 1,000 Hz of touch sampling, support for 10-bit color depth and HDR, very bright (1,500 nits peak). Here, the fingerprint sensor is ultrasonic, with a larger area, so that two fingers can be recognized at the same time.

The selfiecamera in the hole is 32 megapixel, with an aperture of f / 2.5 and an extension of the sensor at 1 / 2.8 “. On the back, in the Vivo X80 the multi-camera is triple, with Zeiss T * coating and stabilization of the horizon line in favor of video shooting, and features a 50 megapixel main sensor (Sony IMX866 with RGBW matrix, extended to 1 / 1.49 ” , with optical stabilization and lens aperture at f / 1.75), a 12 megapixel ultra-wide angle lens (Sony IMX663, f / 2.0), and a telephoto lens (2x optical zoom, 20x digital) for portraits, 12 megapixel (Sony IMX663, f /1.98, 1/2 ″, 1.22 micrometer pixels, OIS stabilization).

In the Vivo X80 Pro there is a quad camera at the rear, with the Zeiss T * coating on all sensors and a panning function that closely resembles the Action Pan of Google’s Pixel 6 rivals. Leading the array operates a 50 megapixel main sensor supplied by Samsung (ISOCELL 3.0 GNV from 1 / 1.3, taken from the Vivo X70 Pro Plus), optically stabilized and benefited by Pixel Shift and Autofocus laser technologies, with an f / 1.57 lens. . The telephoto sensor (2x optical zoom, 20x digital) for portraits (Sony IMX663, 1.22 micrometer pixel, 1/2 ″, OIS stabilization via microGimbal) has a different aperture than the basic Vivo X80, ie from f / 1.85. Even the ultra-wide angle is better, from 48 megapixels (Sony IMX598, sized at 1 / 2.0 ″) and, in addition, there is a sensor that is missing from the basic model, that is the 8 periscope (optical zoom 5x. Digital 60x) megapixel (f / 3.4, optical stabilization). On the audio side, in the X80 series there are two stereo speakers and a Hi-Fi chip: again on the multi-sensory level, there is no lack of linear motor along the X axis for vibrations.

At the processing level, the Vivo X80 is powered by the Mediatek Dimensity 9000 octacore processor, with the combinations of RAM (LPDDR5) and storage (UFS 3.1) which are substantiated in 8 + 128 GB (3,699 yuan, 527 euros), 8 + 256 GB (3,999 yuan, 569 euros), 12 GB + 256 GB (4,399 yuan, 626 euros) and 12 + 512 GB (4,899 yuan, 698 euros).

With up to 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage, the Vivo X80 Pro has a Qualcomm variant, entrusted to the octacore Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor and a Mediatek, in which the 4-nanometer processor is instead the octacore Dimensity 9000: in this case, if you opt for Qualcomm you will have the combinations of 8 + 256 GB (5,499 yuan, 783 euro), 12 + 256 GB (5,999 yuan, 854 euro) and 12 + 512 GB (6,699 yuan, 954 euro) . The Mediatek version, on the other hand, only retains the 12 + 256 and 12 + 512 GB combinations (priced in the same way as the Qualcomm variant).

In both variants the cooling is entrusted to a 27-layer vapor chamber system and the new image chip (ISP) vivo V1 + makes its appearance (to improve low-light shots, noise reduction, MEMC function)

Energy chapter. The Vivo X80 has a 4,500 mAh battery, which can be quickly charged to 80W via Type-C cable. In the Vivo X80 Pro the battery rises to 4,700 mAh and, in addition to keeping the fast wired charging (100% in 34 min, 50% in 11 min) at 80W, it also has the fast wireless charging at 50W. The remaining key specifications of the two smartphones of the Vivo X80 Series mention NFC, 5G (standalone and not), Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2 and, in terms of operating system, the OriginOS Ocean interface applied to Android 12.
