WhatsApp: small roll-outs for companies, more security in development for everyone

After a small aesthetic touch of a marginal nature, Whatsapp has started to distribute an important round of news in favor of companies: in addition to this, the development of an additional security measure for all users is added.

Already in the past, WhatsApp has dedicated itself to the safety of its users, putting in place functions such as the extension of the verification code that verifies the integrity of the web based version of the platform, without forgetting the options to select who can see personal information. . Now, with the aim of preventing another serious problem, namely that of account theft, with users who often naively communicate the 6-digit verification code sent to them by SMS, WhatsApp would have started working on a new function which, if implemented in time, it would make it the only chat app to use it.

Specifically, the WABetaInfo leakers have discovered the evidence of a function that, when you proceed to configure WhatsApp on a new smartphone, will ask you to enter a new and subsequent verification code, always 6 digits, still sent by SMS. In this way, the hope is that, if by chance the first code is provided to perhaps a fake support account or a known but stolen account, being warned that you are trying to access your account “on another phone” , you will avoid communicating the second code, which the platform will take care to send after the expiration of a particular timer.

The second novelty relating to WhatsApp is of a minor nature, and is in roll-out. In this case it is the disabling of the Splash Screen API, introduced by Android 12 to bring some standard design elements to the start of the various apps: in this case of WhatsApp this had led to a different home screen which, however, with the new update , release 2.22.13.8, has once again given way to the original one.

Another new roll-out in these hours refers to what is said about the option, for companies, WhatsApp Premium. On that occasion it was hypothesized that the companies that would have subscribed to this plan of additional functions could have connected up to 10 devices to their account, renaming them so as to know who a given device belonged to, well aware that the name assigned would not be was evident to the customer. In the past few hours, however, companies that use WhatsApp Business for Android (2.22.13.7) and iOS (22.12.0.73), have been granted the free possibility to rename the devices connected to their account, both after adding a new one, and later (through the path: “WhatsApp Settings> Connected devices> Device> Name”). Always corporate accounts, for the occasion, are also receiving a new interface for connected devices.
