WhatsApp, the smartphones on which it will stop working from February 29th

WhatsApp is the instant messaging service that uses the internet connection launched on the market in 2009 and currently owned by Meta. It is one of the most used and appreciated platforms in the world, which over the years has been installed on thousands and thousands of mobile devices, with a high degree of compatibility, and which daily allows people to have conversations even with recipients who are physically far away. TO starting from February 29, 2024however, some users will have to give up using WhatsApp or they will have to opt for purchasing a new smartphone model.

The platform, in fact, it will stop working on some devices for reasons related to the new features implemented by the company’s developers, for security and compatibility issues with the different operating systems. Let’s find out which models are affected by this radical change.

Obsolete smartphones, here are which ones will no longer support WhatsApp

The list of smartphones that will soon become obsolete and on which WhatsApp will no longer work is extensive. Both devices supported by the Android operating system are involved of different brandswhich some iPhones with iOS operating system.

As for Androids, they will become obsolete tAll devices with an operating system that cannot be updated beyond Android 5.0 and which have less than 300 MB of internal memory. There are some Samsungs in the list (among them the Samsung Galaxy LG Optimus F3Q, LG Ativar and LG Lucid 2) and some Huawei models, namely Huawei Ascend Mate, Huawei Ascend D2 and Huawei G740.

As for Apple-branded devices, they will become obsolete all those equipped with the iOS 12 or previous operating system. Therefore, the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus and the iPhone SE will be incompatible with WhatsApp.

What happens to those who own an obsolete device for WhatsApp

Anyone who owns one of these devices will have to give up using WhatsApp, at least until they purchase a new smartphone. A few days before the actual dismantling, affected users will receive a notification who will inform you of what is happening.

Alternatively, those who do not want to change devices can opt for other instant messaging services compatible with their device. In this case, it is important to be aware that you will most likely not be able to access advanced features and to latest generation security systems like those currently offered by WhatsApp.

The new introductions wanted by Meta on the platform, moreover aim to further improve the service offered to users and to guarantee high level performance.
