Twitter is still shaken by Elon Musk’s decision to withdraw from the agreement to purchase the platform: apparently, it will go to a legal dispute in a Delaware court, with several possible outcomes. This has not stopped the daily routine of improvements planned by the team of the blue canary which, in the past few hours, via the official account, has announced an awaited news.

Twitter has long been committed to improving the safety of its users, just think of the possibility of deleting obsolete tweets from the websites that viewed them, or the function to determine who can reply to a tweet. In September, with a numerical extension to February, the test of a security mode was started which, via algorithms, blocks accounts that engage in abusive behavior based on interactions. Now, to these functions, one has been added that aims to prevent unwanted attention.

The new function, called “Unmentioning” (Don’t mention me), was hypothesized by the same platform in June by the engineer for the privacy of the blue canary, a certain Dominic Camozzi. At the time, there was mostly a functional concept of the solution in question which, then, began to be tested last April: now, once the tests have been completed, it has been announced that it will be available for everyone, on any device, also allowing you to better understand how it works,

Basically, Unmentioning removes the tag of the mention to your account present in a discussion: in this way the nickname will remain, but it will be displayed in a different way, and no notification of abandonment of the discussion will be sent to anyone. Once this tag is removed, perhaps because the discussion is not interesting (anymore), generates too many notifications, or is offensive, we will stop receiving the related notifications, and no one will be able to re-add us to the thread we have abandoned.

Twitter, in this regard, was quite clear in reiterating that, after making use of Unmentioning, it will not be possible to cancel the operation and / or re-enter the abandoned thread: in case you still want to use this powerful solution to guarantee yourself a little peace of mind from the digital “noise”, simply go to the “Mentions” tab or use the pop-up menu that appears by touching the three dots icon next to any tweet.
