Back to amaze ZTE which, in addition to having presented the excellent Axon 40 Pro, also showed off the impressive top of the Axon 40 Ultra range, with top processor and invisible camera.

As scheduled, the Chinese brand ZTE has announced (with sales in the domestic market through ZTE Mall.com) the new top range of the Axon 40 series, consisting of a Pro model and an Ultra model with the latter which, like the previous Axon 20 5G and Axon 30 5G, takes up the custom of the camera under the display (UD, under display).

Starting from the most evocative model, although both devices follow the stylistic thread of their predecessors, increasing the elegance factor, the ZTE Axon 40 Ultra (163.2 x 73.5 x 8.4 mm for 204 grams, in silver and black colors) has a display formed by a curved panel (at the edges, of 71 °) AMOLED resolved at 1,116 x 2,480 pixels, sized at 6.8 inches, with 120 Hz refresh rate, 10-bit color depth, 100% coverage on the color space DCI-P3, PWM dimming performed at a frequency of 1,440 Hz, and a maximum brightness of 1,500 nits. In the area of the front sensor, there are 400 PPI of pixel density per inch, an area that is more uniform thanks to a different on-site arrangement of the sub-pixels, and an improved dedicated UDC Pro chip: in this case, it is a 16 megapixel self-camera (26 mm, with pixels from 1.12 micrometers brought to 2.24 via pixel binning).

The raised bumper on the back houses a triple 64 megapixel camera, starting with a customized IMX787 sensor made available by Sony for the main and ultrawide sensor. Of the two, the first sensor has an aperture of f / 1.6, a 35mm equivalent focal length, a 7-element lens, optical stabilization and omnidirectional autofocus, while the second, 2 / 3.5 , with equivalence to 16 mm, has the macro feature at 4 cm. Of the third sensor, telescopic, with f / 3.5, the focal length equivalent to 91 mm, the optical stabilization, and the 2.6x zoom are known: in support of this trio there are a flicker sensor and a ToF sensor that provides its contribution in the focus. Other benefits of this triple camera are the ability to use the three sensors simultaneously, so as to seamlessly switch between focal lengths, and the fact that all sensors rotate clips in 8K @ 30 fps.

Still on the level of multi-sensory involvement, the vibrational motor along the X axis, the two stereo speakers ready for DTS: X Ultra, the improvement of wireless audio via Snapdragon Sound platform, the audio output via microUSB 3.1 should be noted. Type-C, and three microphones for audio zoom.

In the processing section, where there is a liquid dissipation via a vapor chamber extended to 36,356 mm², the engine of the octacore Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor flaunts its “revolutions”, assisted by an LPDDR5 RAM, of 8, 12 and 16 GB (only in paired with 1TB of storage), and 256GB and 512GB UFS 3.1 storage space. Taking a look at the mnemonic combos, from May 13 it will be possible to buy the 8 + 256 GB version (4,998 yuan or 705 euros), the 12 + 256 GB version (5,298 yuan or 747 euros), 12 + 512 GB (5,798 euros) yuan or 818 euros) and 16 GB + 1 TB (7,298 yuan or 1,024 euros).

The battery, from 5,000 mAh, uses the aforementioned microUSB Type-C to guarantee fast charging at 80 W. 5G, Wi-Fi 6E, dual-frequency GPS (Beidou, Galileo) complete the technical picture of the device. Bluetooth 5.2, and NFC.

In the ZTE Axon 40 Pro (162.9 x 72.9 x 8.5 mm thick for 199 grams in the colors Magic Night Black, Star Orange, Crystal Fog Blue) there is a slightly curved display at the sides, from 6.67 inches: it is a resolute AMOLED in FHD + at 1,080 x 2,400 pixels, always with 10-bit color depth, but with high refresh rate up to 144 Hz, 360 Hz of touch sampling, with still 100% on the DCI-P3 color gamut , but with 1,000 nits of peak (according to 4,096 levels of brightness) and 3000000: 1 of contrast. As in the Ultra, the fingerprint scanner is below, although here the self-camera (16 megapixel) is housed in a hole in the top center.

There is also a variation for the rear multi-camera, quadruple, with a design with two portholes of equal diameter and 4K @ 60 fps video. It is controlled by a main 100 megapixel sensor (f / 1.89, sized at 1 / 1.52 “), followed by an 8 ultra-wide angle (120 °), a 2 mpx macro lens operating at 4 cm, and a sensor for the depth still 2 megapixels. Inside there is always the software animation of Android 12 under the MyOS 12 interface, but the processor, kept at bay by a graphene cooling system, is a middle-up, in the guise of Snapdragon 870, supported in the multi -tasking from a RAM (LPDDR5) equal to 8-12 GB, with the storage arrangements (UFS 3.1) which instead provide 256 or 512 GB of storage. Specifically, the RAM and storage combo will be (in this case from May 25) equal to 8 + 128 GB (2,998 yuan or 423 euros), 12 + 256 GB 3,298 yuan or 465 euros), and 12 + 512 GB (3,798 yuan or 535 euros).

Among the other specifications of the Axon 40 Pro, it is impossible not to mention the connectivities, including 5G, Wi-fi ax / 6, GPS, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, fast-charging 5,000 mAh battery ( here, however, dropped to 66W), and the stereo speakers designed to support the decoding of DTS: X Ultra tracks.
