Apple presents iPad Pro M4, iPad Air M2 and Apple Pencil Pro: the news from the event

As scheduled, Apple presented several new features related to the iPad line. The event “Let Loose” saw the new ones as the main protagonists iPad Air M2 e iPad Pro M4but there have been long-awaited and requested updates to the accessories, above all the innovative ones Apple Pencil Pro. The new made-in-Cupertino tablets are already available for pre-order (direct sales will start next week) and promise to take the user experience to the next level with targeted updates.

Apple announces new iPads and new accessories: everything from the Let Loose event in May

iPad Air M2

The next-generation Air arrives in two sizes, from 11″ (starting from €719) and – for the first time – from 13″ (starting from €969). Both have been enhanced with the already known chip M2 (8-core CPU, 10-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine) and therefore the performance, compared to the previous model, is even faster. The RAM is 8GB, the storage space ranges from 128GB to 1TB.

The made-in-Cupertino tablet – regardless of the diagonal – arrives with a Liquid Retina display with a resolution of 2732 x 2049 pixels at 264 ppiwide color gamut (P3), True Tone technology and peak brightness of 600 nits.

In aesthetic terms there are no new features to report, Apple has in fact revived the winning design of the previous model. On the back there is the Smart Connector, on the side the magnetic connector and the volume keys, on the top the on/off button with Touch ID integrated.

The photographic section is composed of a 12 megapixel rear wide-angle lens with digital zoom up to 5x and Smart HDR 4, and from the 12 megapixel front ultra-wide angle finally positioned on the long side for a better video call experience.

Finally, the tablet is compatible with the new one Apple Pencil Proa version of the stylus that brings with it many improvements.

iPad Pro M4

It is the thinnest device ever created by Apple, the 13″ model it is only 5.1 mm thick. We’re talking about the real star of the event, theiPad Pro M4, available in two sizes: a 13″ model (starting from €1,569) and an ultraportable 11″ model (starting from €1,219). Among the many innovations it brings with it, the new one stands out Ultra Retina XDR display with tandem OLED technology.

According to Apple, this is the most advanced display in the world. And maybe it’s just like this:

  • The aforementioned tandem OLED technology combines two OLED panels to generate unprecedented full-screen brightness: 1000 nits for SDR and HDR content and 1600 nits peak for HDR.
  • The glass is in nano-texture and disperses ambient light to reduce reflections, preserving image quality and contrast.

iPad Pro M4

The beating heart of the latest generation tablet is the new M4 chip. This is based on an even more fuel-efficient second-generation 3-nanometer technology. The new CPU offers up to four performance cores and six efficiency cores with latest generation ML accelerators. The 10-core GPU instead offers powerful features such as Dynamic Caching, mesh shading and ray tracing with hardware acceleration.

Added to all this is also greater unified memory bandwidth, so professional rendering apps are up to 4x faster than with the M2 chip. The results are also excellent in terms of energy efficiency: with the same performance, the M4 processor consumes half as much as the M2.

The excellent technical data sheet is completed by the 12 megapixel wide-angle camera, the 12 megapixel TrueDepth front camera with ultra-wide angle, the four-speaker audio system, the four microphones in array, Wi-Fi 6E, 5G, Face ID , the LiDAR scanner and the Thunderbolt / USB-C 4 port.

The new iPad Pro, then, is compatible with the Apple Pencil Pro not nuove Magic Keyboard e Keyboard Folio.

Apple Pencil Pro

The new generation stylus features a new sensor that detects when the barrel is pressed with your fingers (“squeeze”) and opens a palette that allows you to change the tool, stroke thickness and color without interrupting the creative process. On the top is then integrated a haptic engine which produces a slight pulse when the Apple Pencil Pro is pressed or in case of double tap or Smart Shape function.

Another novelty is that thanks to the gyroscope you can rotate the stylus to change the angle of the stroke and the brushstrokejust like you can do with a real pencil on paper.

Finally, it is network compatible Whereso it can be easily traced in case of loss.

For the Europen market the cost of the Apple Pencil Pro, compatible only with iPad Pro M4 and iPad Pro M2, is 149€.
