Garmin Tactix 7 series: official smartwatches for extreme activities

At a rate of almost two announcements a month, the introductions by the American company Garmin of premium smartwatches continue with the arrival, after the models for aviators and diving / surf lovers, of the new series of Garmin Tactix 7 wearables, dedicated not only to those who love to cultivate their well-being, but also to those who love sports activities, the usual daily use, or test themselves in extreme outdoor activities.

Garmin Tactix 7 are divided into 3 models, standard (€ 1,099.99), Pro (€ 1,299.99) and Pro Ballistics (€ 1,599.99). What they have in common is the presence of a 51 mm case, waterproof up to 100 meters deep, practically resistant to everything (MIL-810G): in the 12 o’clock area there is a multi-LED flashlight (to send signals with white or green light ) while, along the perimeter, there are 5 buttons, despite being touch, behind the sapphire glass, the 1.4-inch display, resolved at 280 x 280 pixels, of transflective type, with always on.

Equipped with resistant metal lugs, the Tactix 7 uses titanium for the bezel and, coated with black DLC (carbon-based), the caseback, on which stands the PulseOX sensor, which calculates the level of oxygen in the blood, and the heart rate monitor. Thanks to these elements, but also to GPS (Glonass-Galileo) and to other sensors such as barometric altimeter, accelerometer, gyroscope, thermometer and compass, feedback is obtained in various sports activities (climbing, trail running, walking, cycling, running, swimming rowing, hiking, golf, surfing, indoor, etc.) with a system of suggestions calibrated on the basis of the training load set (training load) or taking into account the level of fitness (training status by Firstbeat). Still on the sporting side, the color maps of about 42 thousand golf courses (CourseView) and those of the ski slopes (SkiView, with attached slopes) are integrated. On a more general level of well-being, there are monitoring of sleep, stress, and the menstrual cycle. Generally speaking, smart, the device makes NFC available for payments with Garmin Pay.

For extreme activities, the Jumpmaster function helps those who try their hand at skydiving, while those who fly will certainly find support in the typical Garmin avionics functions (airport maps, NEXRAD radar with graphic representations of atmospheric movements, METAR / TAF weather reports). For tactical activities in the field, the Stealth mode will turn off GPS and wireless communications (Bluetooth and Wi-Fi) so as not to be detected, while the Kill Switch mode will erase all data from the memory (from 32 GB, also ideal for storing 2,000 songs ), the Dual-Position function will show the coordinates according to two different systems (angular and, for the military, UTM MGRS9) in a single screen, and compatibility with Garmin’s InReach satellite communicators will allow communication even in the absence of a telephone signal.

The Garmin Tactix 7 Pro version replaces the silicone strap of the standard model with a nylon one and uses the Power Sapphire solar charging technology that allows it to bring to 37 days of autonomy in smartwatch mode (against 28 days of the base model) : in addition, there are other sports activities (cross-country skiing, mountaineering, MBT, climber, waypoints dedicated to hunting). There is not even a forethought on the securtivo side, with the automatic sending of the position in case falls or accidents are detected.

The Garmin Tactix 7 Pro Ballistics variant, also with solar charge, stands out for the function called Ballistics, which supports long-range aiming through the integration of a ballistic calculator.
