Amazon sued for increasing Prime Video fees

In the context of his service Prime Video, Amazon has recently made some changes that have been decidedly poorly digested by users.

The integration of advertisements and the elimination of Dolby Vision e Atmos for non-paying users have irritated many a lot, so much so that a real one was started class-action which aims to take the IT giant to court.

The procedure was started by a law firm in Santa Monica which turned to the California federal courtalleging that Amazon violated its contract with subscribers and broke consumer protection laws.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporterthe lawyers say “For years, Amazon has advertised that its Prime subscription included ad-free streaming of movies and TV shows. Like other consumers, the plaintiff purchased the Prime subscription, believing it would include ad-free streaming of movies and TV shows. But is not so“.

Amazon, for its part, has already explained how the price increase is a necessary sacrifice to obtain liquidity to invest in the production of TV series, documentaries and other exclusive Prime Video content.

For many users, however, this explanation is a bit of a stretch, also given the quality of the contents of the platform which, as far as in-house productions are concerned, does not seem to be able to compete with other competitors in the sector.

In fact, it seems more simply that Amazon has followed suit Netflixwith the introduction of advertising in Basic plan to obtain greater revenue and, at the same time, push users towards more expensive subscriptions.

Whether these are logical moves or not, the result is always the same: the consumer, to use streaming services, will have to face ever-increasing expenses.
