There is a bug that is rendering the function Usage time (Screen Time) practically unusable for many Apple users. Restrictions set by parents to understand how much and how children use their devices in fact, they are canceled without any notice.

It’s a bug that Apple has been aware of for a while and that, apparently, it should have already fixed with iOS 16.5. Unfortunately something did not go right and the bug continues to do damage undisturbed.

Time of use – such a useful function is practically useless today

Parents who activate Screen Time on Family Sharing can see a summary of their children’s activity and set usage limits for specific applications (of time or actual blocks) directly from your iOS/iPadOS device.

Having been known for a while, Apple had guaranteed a fix for the bug in question with the release of iOS 16.5 (made available in May). However, reports of the problem also come after installing subsequent updates (both iOS 16.6 and the public betas of iOS 17).

An Apple spokesperson has been reached since The Wall Street Journal and hinted that the company is working to resolve the anomaly as soon as possible: «We’re aware that some users are experiencing issues with Screen Time resetting settings even when not prompted. We take these reports very seriously and will continue to work on updates to improve the situation».

The parental control function can be activated in a few simple steps:

  1. Go up Settings > Screen Time
  2. Tap on Turn on screen time
  3. To select It’s mine [dispositivo] o This [dispositivo] belongs to a minor

To activate the feature on a child’s device, you can set up Screen Time and create settings directly from their device or use “In family” to complete the setup directly from the parent device. For a report on when and how to use an iOS or iPadOS device, just rely on “Family Sharing”.
