Apple could present its first 5G modem chip in 2025

For several years now, Apple has been involved in the development of the SoCs of its devices, and with truly extraordinary results. And it has been since the debut of the first chip in the “M” series that many have been wondering when the primo modem 5G made-in-Cupertino. At the moment there is no official news, but one of the most reliable sources in the sector has revealed very interesting details about.

The collaboration between Apple and Qualcomm on 5G chips could end sooner than expected

Second Ming-Chi Kuoa well-known analyst who has been revealing the moves of the technology giants in advance for years, Apple will present its 5G modem chip in 2025 and – perhaps – on board theFourth generation iPhone SE. Kuo obtained the information from his sources in the supply chain of the Cupertino giant, therefore the percentage of reliability is very high.

Reasoning again on the basis of rumors, the chip-modem will be made with the 4 nm production process of TSMC and will support the bands not exceeding 6 GHz. If this turns out to be true, technology mmWave it would therefore be excluded.

The transition to 5G modems made “in-house”, then, will lead to end of a long-lasting partnership between Apple and Qualcomm. In fact, the second is the exclusive supplier of the 5G chips of the Californian company’s devices, also integrated in the iPhone 14 range.

It’s a step to which Tim Cook & Co. they have been thinking about it for some time now, having started work on 5G chip-modems at least five years ago (complete with the acquisition of a large part of Intel’s “modem” division in 2019).

Is 2025 still too far away? Maybe it’s true, so it’s better to take a look at Apple’s immediate future: the Wonderlust event dedicated (mainly) to the range will be held on September 12 in Cupertino iPhone 15.
