With the massive diffusion of ChatGPT, Microsoft moved promptly to take advantage of the opportunity and turn things around Bingits search engine.

The engine, struggling with an inconvenient competitor like Google, saw a glimmer of opportunity to conquer a larger share of the market by beating the Mountain View giant in time.

Between 2022 and 2023, Microsoft promised sparks in this sense, with Bing and the browser Edge ready for redemption thanks to the integration of AI functionsthen also followed by Office e Teams. Despite everything, however, the company created by Bill Gates seems to have failed to effectively push its search engine.

In fact, according to US research, Bing’s progress has been minimal in terms of use. The search engine, which just the year before the ChatGPT boom had lost almost 33% of searches, saw very little significant increase.

AI was supposed to give Bing the impetus to challenge Google, but very little has changed in a year

There is talk of a passage from 6.7% of users in December 2022 compared to 7.7% in the same month of the following year. Not only that: these studies, compared to others, are relatively optimistic, as they examine US users, who are more likely to use Bing than those from other areas of the world.

In fact, with or without AI, Microsoft’s platform remains a search engine that can be considered niche. Apparently, the Redmond company would also have noticed this critical issue, gradually moving away from its investments in the context of AI applied to Bing.

The same service first known as Bing Chathas now been converted to Windows Copilot. Not only that: a few days ago Bing Image Creator it was renamed Image Creator da Designer. In fact, there are fewer and fewer references to the search engine.

When asked about Bing’s active user numbers by Arstechnica.coma Microsoft spokesperson stated how “With the rollout of Copilot last year, we set out to reinvent how people find answers, building on traditional search methods paired with new conversational tools that better leverage the world’s knowledge. We’ve already seen results and tremendous growth for Copilot, with more than 5 billion chats to date. The search industry is in the midst of a transformation as Artificial Intelligence helps us turn insights into action“.
