ChatGPT becomes a search engine. The challenge to Google has been openly launched

OpenAI aims to challenge Google and to do so he can only use ChatGPT to launch a new one search engine based on artificial intelligence.

An interesting indiscretion which, if it were officially confirmed, could theoretically put an end to around 20 years of undisputed domination by Big G which, let’s remember, is used for around 90% of all web searches all over the world.

Information is still scarce but, from what we know, it seems that OpenAI could integrate ChatGPT functions into web search and, according to some, this could be a turning point for the sector. Here’s what we know.

The new ChatGPT search engine

Google, despite having launched Gemini just a few months ago, he has always been rather cautious when it comes to artificial intelligence and his “tightening the brakes” may have led OpenAI to overtake the Mountain View giant.

The rumors about this new project derive from the analysis of the official ChatGPT page where we read that there is something big at stake, which could be officially revealed next May 9thwith an official announcement.

The most accredited hypotheses at this point are two: either this new search engine which has been rumored on the web for some time, or the signing of the long-awaited collaboration with Apple to bring new ones On-cloud AI functionality about the next ones iPhone 16 and on the new version of iOS.

Remaining on the search engine hypothesis, it must be said that OpenAI is not completely ignorant in this regard and, as is well known, there are some very useful live search functionality integrated into the chatbot they rely on Microsoft Bing (in honor of the collaboration with Microsoft).

However, this feature has always been regarded as a kind of add-on more than a real research method and has also had a rather discontinuous evolution and use.

Lately Sam Altman talked about it, defining the intersection between a LLM and web search, as something that “it has not yet been fully deciphered” and that should be explored. Therefore, he implicitly confirmed that one of the possible future purposes of ChatGPT could be its integration into a search engine.

Besides this he also added “If we could build a better search engine than Google, then we should“, also underlining that Google is “only” a way to find answers already present on the web and that, instead, his project could go much further.

What changes with this news

Clearly, what has been said up to this point represents only a summary of the rumors circulating on the web and the statements made by Sam Altman which have absolutely no official confirmation from OpenAI.

Speculations aside, however, it is clear that the use of Internet is changing and this is happening to meet new and increasingly specific needs of people.

The web has become a fundamental component of our lives, from productivity at the home automationpassing through entertainment e thestudio therefore it is clear that in the future it will be necessary to develop new and more efficient ways of using (and querying) the network, which can be even more efficient and increasingly flexible to cover a very wide field of uses and increasingly personal needs.
