Another celebrity has fallen victim to the deepfake. Some explicit images of the singer Taylor Swift are circulating online, sparking outrage from users.

In this specific case, the images began to circulate yesterday through X. Although some contents of this type have been removed, others are still present on the social network. As reported by the site The Vergesome of the removed images, in approx 17 orethey picked up something like 45 million views.

Not only that: the term “Taylor Swift AI” proposed by X further favored the diffusion of the images, without anyone blocking their diffusion. Virality on the service once known as Twitter was then followed by virality on other platforms such as Facebook, Instagram e Reddit.

Taylor Swift victim of deepfake: explicit images appeared on X but then spread everywhere

Some of the aforementioned services, such as X, theoretically prohibit computer-generated imagesArtificial intelligence. Despite this, the difficulty in detecting this type of content makes the application of the ban still ineffective. Due to the quantity and diffusion of explicit images regarding Taylor Swift, it is currently not possible to know how much content has been generated and disseminated online.

Albeit with a guilty delay, X intervened by suspending accounts for sharing images. On the other hand, the singer’s fans have tried to stem the phenomenon by publishing a flood of real photos of the artist, trying to “dilute” the presence of deepfakes in searches.

Taylor Swift and X’s lawyers, at least at the moment, have not yet released official comments about what happened but it seems clear that, in all likelihood, there will be legal moves in this regard.

Of course, deepfakes of famous artists are certainly nothing new. Ironically, even Elon Musk was recently a victim of this practice, with his image exploited to spread an online scam. Swift’s case, by resonance, could finally push the authorities to find more incisive laws to combat this very unpleasant phenomenon.
