If with the basic model the Chinese brand Doogee had amazed, fielding a smartphone with a secondary display, with the Pro version of the Doogee S98 just made official, comes a rugged phone with a no less original design, equipped with a professional thermal imaging camera.

The new Doogee S98 Pro enjoys all the possible certifications of waterproofing (IP68 and IP68K) and resistance (MIL-STD-810H): the design is less squat than usual, but always with hub corners to cushion shocks. On one side are the fingerprint scanner (unlock in 0.19 seconds) and on the other the customizable button (perhaps to call up an app of the virtual tooklit, such as compass, protractor, magnifying glass, flashlight, call emergency, FM radio, etc). On the back, the theater of action of the NFC module for contactless payments (Google Pay), with a design that, according to the company, is inspired by a flying saucer, the complex multi-camera operates.

In front, where a waterdrop notch stands out for the 16 megapixel selfiecamera (Samsung S5K3P9SP), protected by a Gorilla Glass, it offers its display services, according to an aspect ratio of 19: 9, the display, an IPS LCD panel from 6.3 inches, resolved in FullHD +, with 500 nits of peak brightness and a contrast value of 15,000: 1.

The rear of the Doogee S98 is quite impressive, thanks to the photographic set-up: the latter provides a sensor for night vision, useful for seeing what is hidden in the darkness, represented by the 20 megapixel Sony IMX350 (video in 2K at 30fps ), flanked by a thermal imager, as an InfiRay sensor resolved at 256X192 and with a 25 Hz frame rate, usable to detect, between -15 ° to + 550 °, with an accuracy of + or – 2 °, congestion, loss of heat, accumulations of humidity, etc. Thanks to the Dual Spectrum Fusion algorithm, which combines the low resolution images of the infrared camera with those obtained from the 48 megapixel main sensor (Sony IMX582), the device can be used to “accurately trace problematic points (hot or cold) “.

As in the basic model, the octacore processor (2.05 GHz) MediaTek Helio G96 also works in the Doogee S98 Pro, supported here, on the software side by the hyper engine 2.0 lite for gaming and, as for hardware, by the Mali G57 MC2 GPU, from 8 GB of RAM (LPDDR4x), and 256 GB of storage (UFS 2.2), expandable by another 512 GB via microSD. In terms of energy, a 6,000 mAh battery is inserted, which can be quickly charged, both in wired form, at 33W via microUSB Type-C (OTG), and in wireless Qi, at 15W, in order to provide 432 hours of standby time. 28 hours on call, and 10 hours of video or gaming playback.

The connectivity provided in the Doogee S98 Pro can be summarized, in addition to those already mentioned, in the GPS (BeiDou, Glonass, Galileo), in the Bluetooth 5.1, in the 4G, in the Wi-Fi ac: with Android 12 on board and the promise of 3 years of security updates, the device is officially on sale from today on Aliexpress, with the promotional price (- 46%) of approximately 382 euros, vs the approximately 708 euros of the full price.
