What is the EEC Model for expressing feedback correctly

give feedback

The EEC model is a model for processing and returning feedback aimed at improving the activities of the entire team. The name comes from the three steps on which it is based: Evidence (event), Effect (effect) e Change (Change). Sometimes, Evidence is replaced with Example (Example).

In the first phase, the event is analyzed as a whole. In particular, particular attention is paid to the activity carried out by the recipient of the feedback, who can be a single collaborator or the entire team. We try to describe the situation by being specific and not generic.

At this stage we must remember that the aim is to analyze only the behavior and actions of individualsand never their personality or their private life.

In the second phase, called Effectand describe all the effects produced by the actions carried out by a single person or by the work team. Those had directly on the results of the project, on others, on the surrounding environment and on third parties who have an influence on the work carried out and on the final objectives must be studied.

All effects must be taken into consideration, both positive and negative, in a rational manner and without being influenced by one’s emotions

In the last phase, that of change, Change, all the information in one’s possession is reworked and precise and concrete indications are provided. It is at this moment that the change you want to achieve must be made clear and without leaving room for misunderstanding.

It is appropriate to continue demonstrate trust towards the collaboratorand, even if the feedback is negative and he has made some mistakes, continue to show confidence in him and his abilities so that he is encouraged to change his behavior.

They have to suggest practical solutions, give advice and try to learn his point of view and the reasons that led him to make mistakes. If the feedback is positive, it is instead necessary to identify the key to success and reinforce positive attitudes, so that the individual implements them again in the future, develops awareness of the work done and is motivated to do better and better.

Give feedback, what qualities it must have

give effective feedback

Regardless of the model, method or techniques followed, good feedback must have certain qualities. It must be balanced and focused on both strengths and weaknesses. It must be based on observation: the work of one’s collaborators must be monitored while carrying out work.

Feedback must be objective, not be based on personal likes or dislikes or on perceptions that have no objective evidence. It must be specific and detailed and finally, timelygiven possibly in real time.
