Call waiting L’call waiting is an essential service for those who receive many calls: with it we can be alerted when we receive a call while the phone was not reachable or we were engaged in another call.

In the past, the main operators have decided to charge for this service, but the arrival of low-cost operators has pushed (almost all) to offer this telephony service for free again.

1) Activate call waiting for operators

To check if we have call waiting on our phone number, all we have to do is open the Phone app or the app with the numeric keypad (normally used to type phone numbers) and use the following keys:

*#43#

Thus we will have an indication of the activation status of this service. If the service is deactivated on our line (or we wish to deactivate it) we will have to launch the key sequence:

*43#

This command it is valid for all operators present on the Italian territory: TIM, Vodafone, WindTre, Iliad, Fastweb, PosteMobile and all the others.

At present, only the services LoSai and ChiamaOra by TIM (which are notified via SMS) are paid: once active on our line, they cost €1.59 each month with a charge on the remaining credit; for those with a subscription, the cost is 48 cents each calendar month, with a bimonthly charge of 96 cents on the mobile line bill.

2) Activate call waiting on Android

In addition to the call waiting offered by the operators it is possible handle this service through the dialer app included in our phone; given the variety of dialers offered on android phones it’s not possible to provide a guide for everyone, but it’s worth looking into call waiting directly in your phone’s settings.

To proceed, open the app Settingspress up on the search bar and search call waiting; alternatively we can open the dialer, access the app settings and check if it is possible to activate the call waiting function.

3) Turn on call waiting on iPhone

On iPhone we can effectively manage the service Call waiting of the operator by acting directly from the device settings, without installing any external app.

To get call waiting on iPhone we open the app Settingswe press on the menu Telephonewe select the menu Call waiting and wait for the service to be analyzed (the SIM we have inserted will be scanned); if the service is deactivated, we activate the switch next to the entry Call waiting to activate it.

As it is easy to understand, this item is based on the call service available from the operator: if we use TIM, we remind you that call waiting is subject to a fee if we decide to use TIM’s LoSai and ChiamaOra.

Conclusions

Call waiting is now offered free of charge to all users who subscribe to a new subscription or activate a new SIM (except if we choose TIM as the operator, which still charges). If we want to use this service we have to activate it with the specific activation code or use the built-in Call Waiting voice on iPhone and some Android phones.
