iOS 18 could have a new interface based on visionOS

It’s been several years since Apple made any major changes to the iOS design language. The Cupertino company has in fact opted for updates to specific parts of the iPhone operating system, as in the case of the lock screen with iOS 16. However, there could be a “radical” turning point this year, i.e. with iOS 18: according to the latest rumors, the user interface could be very similar to that of visionOS of the Vision Pro.

iOS 18: will the update be inspired by visionOS?

According to the latest report from The Verifier, the next major update of the iPhone operating system will bring with it visual elements from visionOS. The latter is characterized by more rounded corners, shadows and depth effectsbecause windows are always floating and overlay complex backgrounds.

In the aforementioned report the example of tvOS 17.2 is proposed, since this update brought with it a new version of the Apple TV app with an unprecedented floating sidebar, very similar to what you see in the client for visionOS. The iPhone app, on the other hand, presents a different design language, anchored to the past one might say.

Apple TV - App

Like other rumors, this one should be taken with a pinch of salt. There’s certainly nothing there yet, though Mark Gurmanthe well-known journalist of Bloombergstated that iOS 18 will feature “ambitious changes” which will overwhelm virtually all parts of the operating system. But will it be a new interface, new features, or both?

The presentation of iOS 18 is set for WWDC24, which – according to recent tradition – will be held in June in Cupertino. There is no doubt, however, that before the big event dedicated to Apple software, new information will leak out on all the plans on the Californian company’s agenda.
