iPhone 15 vs 15 Pro Max, the difference under the microscope between the two 48 MP sensors

The launch of the new ones iPhone As usual, it sparked a lot of interest among the public ready to buy a new smartphone. Obviously there are some very interesting new features and something that would instead leave users thinking about keeping their current phone without making a change.

The two sides of the coin are this time interspersed with one main aspect: at first glance it seems that the iPhone 15, il 15 Pro, and the Pro Max are equipped with the same camera main, but this is not the case. As most passionate users certainly know, there are quite important differences.

In fact, as regards the sensor from 48 MP of the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, we are faced with a 1/1.28 inch unit with 1.22 µm pixels. The iPhone 15, which similarly features 48 MP, sports a 1/1.56-inch sensor with 1.0 µm pixels. This therefore means a difference in terms of sensor size. It is well known that a larger unit, like the one on the Pro models, is able to collect much more light and consequently take better shots.

The larger surface area of a photographic sensor, as already mentioned, allows it to capture more light and take better shots. Someone would have thought of demonstrating this further by passing the sensors of two smartphones to the microscope. We are talking more precisely about the iPhone 5 and 15 Pro Max.

In a video published on the web, it is easy to see the difference: although the two smartphones have the same 48 MP main sensor, the iPhone 15 has a 22% smaller quad-pixel frame compared to the top model.

In low light conditions there will therefore be a clear difference between the two terminals. In favor of the basic model, however, it must be said that for the first time it comes significantly closer to the Pro models of the last edition.
