iPhone is the most popular smartphone among teenagers: Apple Watch is also growing

Although the competition is more than fierce (Samsung and Google in particular), Apple’s iPhone continues to be the most popular smartphone among teenagers. The news emerges from data shared by the investment company Piper Sandler, which conducted its usual semi-annual survey on a sample of teenagers. This is where it comes from 87% of those interviewed own a made-in-Cupertino smartphone and that 88% plan to buy one as their next device.

iPhone does not give up first place: it is still the most popular smartphone among teenagers

According to the survey result, the number of teenagers own an iPhone it hasn’t changed from last year. An interesting fact concerns the fact that in the last decade there has been interest in Apple’s smartphone has grown dramatically. In fact, in October 2013 “only” 55% of teenagers had an iPhone in their pocket, while 24% could count on an Android device.

It also increases the appeal of Apple Watch, even if it is not comparable to that of the Cupertino-based company’s flagship device. Compared to 31% last year, today 34% of respondents own an Apple smartwatch. Furthermore, 10% said they wanted to buy one in the next six months (like the Apple Watch Series 9). In terms of brand success, Apple is the favorite watch brand, surpassing Rolex, Casio, Garmin and even Cartier.

Given how popular the iPhone is, it’s not surprising that Apple Pay is the most used payment platform among teenagers, with 42% confirming that they have used the service at least once in the last month.

Apple does instead a little more difficult when it comes to music streaming. 70% of respondents said they use Spotify as a music service, only just over 30% rely on Apple Music. What pushes users towards Spotify is certainly the advantage of a free plan (but with advertising), which Apple Music does not offer.

The polls of Piper Sandler on the habits of adolescents are now a tradition and are conducted twice a year. For this fall’s report, 9,193 teens (in 49 states) with an average age of 15.7 years were surveyed.
