Make videos on Instagram with filters and special effects

With the Instagram application on iPhone and Android you can record videos and share them with cinematic filters

Instagram special effects The Instagram app allows you to take and share photographs immediately with your phone, so you can show them to friends and other people connected to the social network. In addition to photos, we can shoot short videos, so that we can use them in Stories or in a simple post and tell a little about our lives and our thoughts.

When we shoot Instagram videos, just like photos, we can make use of filters or special effects, which we can use both live (during recording) and later, before publishing the video as an Instagram post. You will then be able to create new Reels that are fun to watch as the most well-known influencers do.

1) Add filters and effects to Stories on Instagram

For a filter on Stories with Instagram we open the application, drag from the left towards the center to open the camera and press down on History.

Now we choose the mode among those present at the bottom (scrolling left and right) and hold down the button in the center, so as to activate video recording. Alternatively we can record without having to hold down the button by pressing the arrowhead on the left side and pressing on the item Without holding down.

The filters can change based on the use we make of them, but in most cases they are the same for everyone, given that Instagram favors the most used ones in the area where we live. To find new filters, scroll to the right in the filter list and select the item Browse effects.

A lower section will open in the app where you can choose the most popular effects, effects related to the appearance or aesthetics of the face or characters, effects with games, humorous effects and finally special effects.

The latter closely resemble cinematic effects, allowing you to add flames, the waves effect, fiery red eyes to Instagram Stories or exploit special effects such as the dancing clone, the storm effect, the facial zoom and the “big head” or “baby head”.

2) Add filters and effects to Reels on Instagram

Reels are Instagram’s vertical videos, which in fact mimic those already seen on TikTok. If we want to create a new vertical video we open the Instagram camera (swipe from left to right), select the menu at the bottom Reel and we press on Effects sideways to the left.

We will thus be able to access the vast collection of filters and special effects designed by Instagram for creators of viral content: we can add the HDR effect, modify the saturation, force the video to be shot in high resolution, modify the appearance of the light in the video and much more.

To make really fun videos we can add audio or green screen (customizable green background), thus creating a funny video using one of the many memes available in the app and adding a background of your choice.

For further information we can read the guide above how to remove background from videos.

3) Add filters to videos already recorded

If, however, we wanted to apply filters to a video already present on the phone, we tap on the + button in the center of the Instagram app, select the video and press on the arrow at the top right to move to the next screen.

In the new screen we press on at the top Effects and choose from the available effects, using both the search button and the menus at the top Aesthetics e Special effects).

After adding the desired filter and cover, tap on the item at the top right Avanti and choose whether or not to publish the video as a post, as an Instagram Story or as a Reel.

Conclusions

As we could see create videos with special effects on Instagram it’s really very simple: just press a few buttons and scroll through the available filters to create small masterpieces, ready to be shared with our followers or anyone who follows a certain hashtag (fundamental when we use a photographic social network like Instagram).

If we want to download the photos and videos we have taken on Instagram, so that we can store them on a PC or share them on other platforms or social networks, we advise you to read our guide on how Save photos and videos from Instagram on Android and iPhone.

If, however, we often use Instagram from the PC (even if it is designed to be used on mobile), we recommend you try the extensions designed for this social network and available in our guide to Extensions for using Instagram on Chrome and Firefox.
