Orbit Chain Attack: $86 Million in Cryptocurrencies Stolen

On the evening of December 31, a hacker managed to sneak into the platform Orbit Chainand cryptocurrency bridgegoing to steal crypto for a total estimated around 86 million dollars.

According to what experts said, the theft would have been instantaneous and would have affected various currencies, including Ether, Dai, Theter e USD Coin. Although no group claimed responsibility for the operation, many named it Lazarus as a reference to possible perpetrators.

The cybercriminals in question, linked to the North Korean government, are in fact no strangers to these types of attacks. Cryptocurrency bridges, in fact, represent one of the main objectives of this collective. At the moment it is not yet clear how the hackers managed to access the bridge. All of this, however, suggests the exploitation of an unspecified entity vulnerability.

Orbit Chain: users also victim of a phishing attack

In the past, other “colleagues” of Orbit Chain have in fact had to deal with Lazarus, that is Belt Finance e ClaySwap. In both cases we are talking about platforms that are part of the project Ozyswhich also includes Orbit.

Orbit Chain released a statement confirming that it is cooperating with South Korean authorities, with the hope of trying to locate the tokens and, if possible, recover them.

It was another cybercrime operation that affected those who saw their wallets emptied and, at least at the moment, it is not known whether it is connected to the same authors of the attack or not. Through some account X verifiedin fact, sites are promoted phishing presented as useful for obtaining a refund for the stolen cryptocurrencies. The unfortunate victims only aggravate the situation by losing what remains of their crypto savings.
