Russia fears espionage: iPhones banned for state officials

The weather is getting hotter and hotter and it’s not the atrocious heat that is gripping Europe. Between Russia e United States there is bad blood and this is well known, but now the Kremlin has decided to adopt all possible countermeasures to avoid problems.

Other bodies, including Russia’s telecommunications and media ministry, also plan to begin enforcing this sort of new regulation.

Russia: No Apple products are to be used by state officials from now on

The Times reports that this ban covers all Apple products, not just iPhones. Only in some cases, state officials will be able to continue to use these devices, but only for strictly personal use. The sine-qua-non condition is that they don’t use them to open useful apps for the correspondence.

This ban came after the Russian Federal Security Service uncovered an espionage operation by some US intelligence agencies. it was just theFSB to claim that thousands of iPhones had been infected by some monitoring software.

There have already been events regarding Russia’s relationship with Cupertino devices: after the Russian invasion of Ukraine last February 2022, in fact, it was Apple that interrupted access to Apple Pay in Russia.

Soon after came another even tougher choice: stop all sales of every product in the country. The Californian firm clarified that the decision was a response to the invasion. There has been no direct response from Apple regarding the current issue, or at least for the time being.
