The latest Windows update conflicts with VPNs

As confirmed by Microsoftthe security update for April regarding Windows 11 (KB5036893) e Windows 10 (KB5036892) is causing quite a few problems for users VPN.

In addition to the confirmation, the Redmond company has confirmed that some investigations are underway to understand what is happening and that, over the next few days, it will share the result of these analyzes with its users. Microsoft also advised home users to request support, in cases like this, through the app Windows Get Help (for personal accounts) e Support for Business (in the case of small and large businesses).

At present there is no known workaround for this phenomenon, although many users are temporarily uninstalling the updates involved in this bug.

Windows and VPNs? That’s not the only problem with this update

As stated by Microsoft, to remove the update you need to use the command DISM/Remove Package dal Command Prompt. Despite this, it should always be taken into account that this operation also deactivates the security patches included in the update, not limited to what prevents the use of the VPN.

Apparently, again in KB5036893, other problems have occurred. Many users are in fact reporting how the attempt to modify theprofile picture of an accountactually leads to the error code 0x80070520. Again, Microsoft has confirmed that it is aware of the bug and is working to resolve it.

That Windows conflicts with VPNs is nothing new. In fact, during the month of April last year, Microsoft had to deal with some speed problems related to VPN L2TP/IPsecthen fortunately resolved.

Despite the obvious problems, it should be remembered how important it is to rely on Windows security updates. These, in fact, “plug” any gaps in the operating system that can be exploited by cybercriminals to compromise a computer.
