Threads: the new Meta social network active in Europe in a few days

Known primarily in the United States, Threads is a social network launched by Meta to compete – also given the similarities – with X. The platform formerly known as Twitter is now owned by the exuberant Elon Musk and – since the change at the top – has been going through a particularly stormy period.

The tech giant led by Mark Zuckerberg is trying to take advantage of this evident distress. Threads has been launched in several markets, but not in Europe. The reason? Non-alignment with European Union regulations regarding the requirements in terms of privacy.

Threads also active in Europe in December, according to the WSJ

After the initial boom, Threads seems to have lost some of its appeal. However, there could be a reversal of this trend within a few days, because according to what was reported by Wall Street Journalil social network will open its doors to users from European Union countries this December.

Users will be able to consult the platform even without having an active account and – obviously – they will be able to interact directly with other members by creating their own profile.

Threads - New Meta app

The recently introduced possibility of deleting a Threads account without having to also close the Instagram account to which it is associated is probably also well received by the European Union.

According to analyst Debra Aho Williamson, this new phase could guarantee new traffic peaks for Meta’s social network: approximately 40 million new accounts by 2024.

Like the debut, this expansion also arrives at a time of extreme difficulty of X (Twitter). After a comment by Elon Musk in support of anti-Semitic content, many companies have decided to no longer invest in advertising on the platform (Apple and Disney, for example). The same American entrepreneur then became the protagonist of an episode that attracted more criticism than anything else.
